1923 Season 2 Release Date: Will It Make A Comeback In 2024?

1923 renewed for a Season Two

We have some unfortunate news regarding the arrival of Season 2 of 1923. You must not have heard a whisper about the arrival of the new season ever since its renewal. The showrunners have kept this information under wraps because, sadly, filming has not begun yet.

The main reason? The ongoing strikes.

May 2023 witnessed the onslaught of the gravest writer’s protest in the form of the WGA union. Amidst the protest, several competing networks updated their fall broadcast schedules in anticipation of the dissipation of the strikes within the next month.

However, in July, the actors union SAG-AFTRA also joined in the protest for their wage rights and better protection against the hindsight of Artificial Intelligence. The last time such a large-scale strike sent Hollywood productions into an indefinite hiatus was 63 whole years ago! We are currently in the third month of this double-strike situation, and there are no hopes for any reconciliation through negotiations.

In a recent meeting held for the first time in more than three months, the Writers Guild and the AMPTP on Friday failed to reach an agreement to resume contract negotiations. Their inability to agree on terms for returning to the bargaining table comes after their much-anticipated meeting to discuss a possible resumption of talks.

“As of now, there is no agreement on these items, because the AMPTP said they needed to consult with their member studios before moving forward,” the union said in a statement recently.

Given that the strike might not end anytime soon, the production for 1923 Season 2 has been officially put on an indefinite hiatus. Unless the strike dissipates, we cannot expect the final season of the hit series to reach us soon.

According to a report from NBC Montana, Butte Civic Center manager Bill Melvin said he was contacted by the production of the Paramount+ series that filming had been postponed as the WGA strike continued. Filming for the sophomore season of 1923 was due to start on Monday, June 5, and according to Melvin, production is paying $75,000 a month to use the Civic Center through the end of the year.

However, we can make a calculated guess based on the premise that the strike will reach a point of end by the end of 2023. In that sense, we can, in fact, expect 1923 Season 2 to arrive by 2024 end. Keep in mind that this estimation is subject to alteration, given the volatile situation.
