The Suicide Squad 2

Based on the DC Comics squad of the same name, the Suicide Squad is a superhero film released in 2021. It is a standalone sequel to Suicide Squad (2016) and the eighth film in the DC Extended Universe, produced by DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, and The Safran Company and released by Warner Bros. Pictures (DCEU). Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, and Pete Davidson feature in the film, which was written and directed by James Gunn. In the film, the Suicide Squad is dispatched to the island country of Corto Maltese with the mission of destroying evidence of the massive extraterrestrial starfish Starro the Conqueror.

The Suicide Squad opened in theatres in the United Kingdom on July 30, 2021, and in the United States on August 5, 2021, with a month of streaming on HBO Max beginning the same day. Critics liked Gunn’s narrative, directing, and visual aesthetic, garnering good reviews. Many people thought the film was far better than its predecessor, and it was the third most-streamed film on HBO Max in 2021. However, it was a box office flop, generating $167.4 million worldwide against a $185 million production budget. In January 2022, HBO Max will premiere Peacemaker, a spin-off television series featuring Cena.

Last August, a two-minute behind-the-scenes sneak preview with cast members exciting the DC film premiered at DC FanDome, giving fans their first glimpse at the new Suicide Squad. We were also introduced to the film’s large ensemble cast of characters.

The initial teaser (below) teased what to anticipate from Gunn’s Suicide Squad reboot, as well as the tentacled monster starfish villain Starro. After airing in front of Godzilla vs. Kong screenings in April, a trailer geared at audiences of all ages was released.

The Suicide Squad’s last teaser dropped in late June, offering us yet another glimpse at Starro and their Corto Maltese operation called “Project Starfish.” Gunn then released a character vignette in mid-July to reintroduce the cast.

The Suicide Squad 2021’s creator refuses to label the film a remake or a reboot. It’s a new picture with a new approach. A few characters return, but most of the original group is made up of newcomers. The film’s plot revolves around their next suicide operation.
