Hello, book-lovers! Love book to movie adaptations? Because a twisty crime thriller is coming to Netflix this summer! Some of Netflix’s most popular content in recent years has been literary adaptations: Firefly Lane, Anne with an E, The Haunting of Hill House, and The Woman in the Window, to name a few.
Based on the psychological thriller book by Sarah Alderson of the same name, The Weekend Away is the latest addition to the books to movies list of Netflix. To the book-lovers’ relief, Alderson herself wrote the screenplay for the Netflix adaptation, and Grand Jury Prize nominee Kim Ferrant is directing the same.
Take a look at the first look photos of the upcoming thriller shared by Alderson,

The official Netflix logline reads as follows:
“A weekend getaway to Croatia goes awry when a woman is accused of killing her best friend, and her efforts to get to the truth uncover a painful secret.”
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Netflix thriller The Weekend Away.
What is The Weekend Away about?
Imagine you went on a trip with your best friend and she went missing! And you’re accused of her murder. Would you be able to prove our innocence?
The official book blurb reads as follows:
Two friends go on holiday. Only one comes back. Orla and Kate have been best friends forever. Together they’ve faced it all-be it Orla’s struggles as a new mother or Kate’s messy divorce. And whatever else happens in their lives, they can always look forward to their annual weekend away. This year, they’re off to Lisbon: the perfect flat, the perfect view, the perfect itinerary. And what better way to kick things off in style than with the perfect night out? But when Orla wakes up the next morning, Kate is gone. Brushed off by the police and with only a fuzzy memory of the night’s events, Orla is her friend’s only hope. As she frantically retraces their steps, Orla makes a series of shattering discoveries that threaten everything she holds dear. Because while Lisbon holds the secret of what happened that night, the truth may lie closer to home.
The adaptation, of course, has some minor changes, such as the characters names are Beth and Kate, and they are not going to Lisbon but to Croatia! However, the premise is the same. The whole movie revolves around Beth as she is charged with proving her innocence and discovering what truly happened to her best friend with just a vague memory of the previous night’s events.
Who is in The Weekend Away cast?
Miss Blair Waldorf? The icon. Gossip Girl’s Queen B Leighton Meester is our Beth in The Weekend Away. Additional cast members include Batwoman fame Christina Wolfe as Kate, Ziad Bakri as Zain, Luke Norris, and Amar Bukvic.
When is The Weekend Away releasing?
The Weekend Away is coming to Netflix on March 3, 2022.
