Netflix has its own fare share of novel to series adaptation. Adding to the list, My Brilliant Friend is one of those series that has made the audience hooked to the screen. The series wrapped its season second leaving audience in a dilemma as to whether the third season would premier or not. Here is all you need to know about the My Brilliant Friend Season 3 of the series.
My Brilliant Friend is a TV series based on the Neapolitan Series by Italian author Elena Ferrante. The second season (an eight-episode series) is an adaptation of the second novel, The Story of a New Name, which has already been released. The answer to fans’ questions about whether the series will return for a third chapter is a resounding yes! The third season is based on Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay, the third novel in Lenu and Lila’s journey.
When is My Brilliant Friend Season 3 coming out?
The show’s second season premiered in Italy in February 2020, followed by a May release on HBO in the United States, according to HITC. On June 19, 2020, Sky Atlantic broadcasted the season in the United Kingdom. Elena and Lila (played by Margherita Mazzucco and Gaia Girace, respectively) live in 1950s Naples.
HBO executive Francesca Orsi, according to Vulture, stated in a statement, “The fact that viewers and critics alike have continued to embrace Elena and Lila’s story makes it all the more gratifying, and we thank the entire team led by Saverio Costanzo for their outstanding work on the second season. We cannot wait to tell the next chapter of Elena and Lila’s lives and friendship.”
It will be available on HBO/Crave on February 28, 2022.
The plot of My Brilliant Friend Season 3: What is it about?
As previously stated, the previous seasons were based on books: Season 1 was based on the book My Brilliant Friend, and Season 2 was based on the book The Story of a New Name. The plot of the third book, Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay, will be adapted for the third episode. As the duo’s different romantic lives become increasingly strained, Lenù and Lila’s relationship will be tested more than ever. Because the Neopolitan Novel series has four volumes, fans might expect a fourth season of the drama series.
Who will join My Brilliant Friend Season 3’s Cast?
The performers will have to “age up” for their parts because the tale is built on the two main characters’ relationship transitioning into maturity, where Lila leaves her husband to join the job and Elena becomes a college graduate with a published novel. It’s possible that this will result in a completely different casting.
According to TVZap, Gaia Girace, who portrays Lila, is departing the show three episodes into Season 3. “I’m sorry to say goodbye to Lila’s character, on which I’ve been working for three years. I’m growing up with her, and I’m sorry to have to hand over the reins to someone else,” Girace said. “I hope whomever after me loves her even half as much as I do.” As a result, it’s probable that Margherita Mazzucco’s adolescent role Elena will be replaced by a new, older actor.
