WeCrashed, based on a podcast of the same name, aims to capture WeWork’s meteoric rise and subsequent dramatic fall, which many have compared to both Uber and Airbnb. Their business concept was straightforward – they would buy long-term leases on commercial office space and then rent out short-term rents to freelancers, small enterprises, and others. Before details leaked to the press alleging extreme mismanagement, executive conflicts of interest, and quarterly losses investors couldn’t stomach, the corporation was valued at over $47 billion dollars.

CEO Adam Neumann has been accused of distorting these red flags while taking personal loans from his company to fund his own personal enterprises, spending excessively on the company account, and even holding a stake in four WeWork properties. According to Businessweek, the affair was “a humiliating comedown,” and the publication documented several criticisms of the corporation from business leaders and even Columbia University academics.

Here’s everything you need to know about the series.

WeCrashed Plot

WeCrashed will follow WeWork CEO and founder Adam Neumann and his wife, Rebekah Neumann, as their luxurious lifestyle collides with the company’s transformation from startup unicorn to Silicon Valley pariah.

Adam Neumann and Miguel McKelvey founded WeWork in 2010. The show will also look at Adam Neumann’s relationship with his wife, Rebekah, and how it affects the company.

After claims of wrongdoing and mistreatment of employees surfaced, and his financial decisions were questioned, Adam Neumann stepped down as CEO of WeWork in 2019.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, co-showrunner Lee Eisenberg said: “What separates [WeCrashed] from other things we’ve seen in this genre is that we watch the story through the prism of this couple. We see this cult of personality within the business story and then come home with them at night.”“We as a society get swept up in unicorns and this idea that you can get rich quick. I mean, Adam Neumann unironically said that he wanted to be a trillionaire. That’s just wild,” he added.
