A look back at The Problem With Jon Stewart Season 1

Every episode focuses on a specific issue, which Stewart introduces with a sequence of jokes, similar to his previous The Daily Show monologues. He then hosts roundtable chats with a group of people halfway through both shows. Each episode’s segments are also broken by quick, pre-recorded bits.

In the first episode of the show, Stewart dealt with healthcare for military veterans. It is believed, exposure to pollutants produced when rubbish and waste were burnt at or near military bases where they served overseas, created multiple health hazards.

It’s a difficult subject to joke about, but it’s one that Stewart has worked to resolve as an activist for years. Stewart’s best moments on the show were when he spoke to a roundtable of veterans and their spouses about the mountain of paperwork they face trying to get help paying medical costs that have bankrupted them.

Just like this the remaining 3 episodes also revolved around hard to joke about topics and issues a lot of us never realized needed our quick attention.

The second episode of the show focused on the rise of authoritarianism around the world and the problems that arise when Americans prioritize personal freedom over sacrifice for the common good, such as refusing to wear masks or take a vaccine in the event of a deadly pandemic.

An Introduction to Jon Stewart

The Problem With Jon Stewart Release Date and Trailer

Jon Stewart is a well-known comedian and political commentator who always brings a lighthearted tone to serious topics. Stewart had a chat show called The Jon Stewart Show that ran on MTV in 1993.  Then from 1999 to 2015, Stewart presented Comedy Central’s satirical news program The Daily Show, which was succeeded by Trevor Noah. Stewart has acted in films such as Big Daddy, Jay and Silent Bob, and Death to Smoochy, as well as directing films such as Rosewater and Irresistible. Irresistible was a comedy starring Steve Carell and Rose Byrne, while Rosewater was a serious drama based on a true tale.

Following his departure from The Daily Show, Stewart secured a four-year deal with HBO, where he was producing an animated news parody show. The show was ultimately canceled while it was still in progress due to production concerns. Stewart secured a deal with Apple when his HBO contract expired. It’s unclear whether Stewart and Apple are working on any additional shows outside The Problem with Jon Stewart, which appears to be a hit on AppleTV+.
