TVING’s original upcoming drama, Monstrous is backed up by a powerful cast and crew. Monstrous is a new addition to the supernatural genre of K-dramas, which is probably the most famous among fans. The previous smash hit supernatural and fantasy K-dramas include Strong Girl Bong-soon, A Korean Odyssey, Goblin, and The Legend of the Blue Sea, these are also a few of the highest-rated K-dramas of all time.
Monstrous tells the story of a group of people who are cursed by a “thing” that should have never come into our world. Writer-director Yeon Sang Ho and writer Ryu Yong Jae pair up again after Peninsula for the upcoming miniseries. Ryu’s work includes My Holo Love, Psychopath Diary, and the upcoming Korean remake of Money Heist. Yeon is known for The Cursed and the extremely successful Train To Busan.

What is Monstrous about?
Jung Ki Hoon is an archaeologist. He is in search of a weird supernatural event, but his life is turned upside down by an unexpected case. He now manages a YouTube channel and produces the esoteric journal of the name, Monthly Strange Story. He travels to Jinyang County to explore “Gwibul” (a Buddhist statue possessed by an evil spirit) because of his ex-wife, Lee Soo Jin. There, he encounters a strange and terrifying occurrence.
As an archaeologist, Lee Soo Jin deciphered writings and symbols. She was a natural at what she did. Her only child, however, dies, and she relocates to Jinyang County. She encounters strange occurrences there, prompting her to seek explanations.
Meanwhile, residents of Jinyang County, including police substation head Han Seok Hee, her son Han Do Kyung, governor Kwon Jong Soo, and troublemaker Kwak Yong Joo, are witnessing a series of strange events.

Monstrous is set to have 6 episodes in total and premiere sometime on tvN in April 2022.

The multi-talented star Koo Kyo Hwan will be playing the lead role of Jung Ki Hoon. Koo Kyo Hwan, born in Seoul, is a South Korean actor, costume designer, editor, producer, director, and screenwriter. For his role in Beaten Black and Blue, Koo earned the Busan International Film Festival’s Actor of the Year award in 2016. In 2017, he received the Busan Film Critics Awards and the Buil Film Awards for his performance in Jane in the category – Best New Actor.
Shin Hyun Bin will be playing the role of Lee Soo Jin. Shin made her big break in the 2010 movie She’s On Duty, in which she also won the award for Best New Actress at the 47th Beaksang Arts Awards.
Substation chief, Han Seok Hee will be played by Kim Ji Young and her son Han Do Kyung will be played by the famous Nam Da Reum.
The Vincenzo star Kwak Dong Yeon will be seen as Kwak Yong Joo. Yeon made his acting debut in 2012 in the KBS television series My Husband Got A Family. The drama received a peak viewership rating of 49.6%, earning it the title of “National Drama.” On the annual TV rating chart for 2012, the series was placed first overall. Yeon earned the Best Young Actor Award at the 2012 Korea Drama Awards for his performance.
Park Ho San will play Kwon Jong Soo. Park made his acting debut in 1998 and has since appeared in numerous dramas including Exit (2018), Lawless Lawyer (2018), Less than Evil (2018), Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency (2019), and True Beauty (2020).
