Severance Season 2 Release Date Updates: When is it expected to premiere?
We know that the fandom has been highly anticipating the release of the second season which has started to raise many doubts across social media handles and fan forums. Before these rumors started again any more momentum we want to clarify these claims by highly emphasizing that right now the release date of the second season can not be confirmed because the filming which initially began on October 3, 2022, in New York City, and was set to wrap on May 12, 2023.
However, on May 8, 2023, production of the season was shut down due to the ongoing writers’ strike. It marks the second major Apple series to be shut down as a result of the labor action after the Maya Rudolph series Loot halted filming last week in LA. Due to this reason, the network cannot acknowledge these details which will be way too early to predict as the strike might happen for a while due to which the potential release window may shift causing changes in the 2023-24 stream schedule of Apple TV+, which will be confirmed later.
But if we have to guess, looking at the pattern of the first season, then the second season will most likely premiere sometime around mid to late 2023 at approximately 12:01 a.m. PT (only if the writer’s strike gets resolved soon). Many fans are predicting the range of months may differ considering the premiere dates for season one were around this time frame.
We would also like to highlight that, at this point in time, this is just pure speculation!

Severance Season 2: What can the fans expect to see in the new season?
Creator Dan Erickson didn’t have much to reveal at the Severance Comic-Con panel, saying only that Season 2 would focus on “building out the world a little bit more, and with this tweak to reality, what the ramifications would be.” And when asked whether the show will explain what the deal is with the goats, Erickson simply replied, “Yeah.” Great! “In Season Two, we’re going to be showing all of these people on the outside,” the show creators told Entertainment Weekly.
“Similar to Mark, they each had their own reason for getting this procedure, and they’re all at some stage of a healing process for one thing or another… Being able to take what Adam did in the first season – with the differentiation between his innie and outie, and how they feel like the same person but with this vastly different lived experience – seeing the other three characters’ version of that dichotomy is, I think, the most exciting part.”
The season will definitely pick up plotlines from the first season’s final episode, “The We We Are,” in which the viewers got to see that Mark’s innie wakes up in Devon’s home, hugging Cobel. He alerts Cobel of the activated overtime contingency and calls Milchick to check the security office. Mark reveals he’s in innie form, learns of Gemma’s death, and learns that “Mrs. Selvig” is Mark’s boss. Mark encourages Devon to report Lumon’s misdeeds to the press, as Lumon likely controls the police.
The viewers also got to see that Irving discovers his outie’s paintings and U.S. Navy background, and locates Burt. Helly learns her outie is Helena Eagan, daughter of Lumon CEO Jame Eagan. Cobel tries to stop Helly from making a speech, but Milchick reaches the security office. Helly tells the crowd of the innies’ subjugation and torment. Irving discovers he’s already in a relationship with Burt. It’s an exciting cliffhanger to continue the story as the fans will also appreciate it this way!
According to Esquire.com, creator Dan Erickson stated, “There’s definitely going to be some expansion of the world,” he teased. “Within Lumon, we’re going to see more of the building, and we’ll see more of the outside world, too.” He continued by making a comment about the overall narrative’s structure of storytelling:
“There’s an overall plan for the show. I have an endpoint in mind, and I intentionally didn’t plan it season by season, because I wanted it to be flexible enough that we could get there in two seasons or six seasons. I want to allow us to be surprised by where the show goes. There’s a sense of what Lumon is trying to do and the role that our main characters are going to play in that, and where it all will culminate. It’s really exciting to think about taking the next step on that trip.”
