Young Sheldon Season 7: When will the new season air on CBS?

Young Sheldon Season 7: What is the potential release date?

Earlier this year, CBS was quick to unveil the 2023–2024 primetime schedule, which confirmed that the next season of this beloved spin-off prequel to The Big Bang Theory was all set to arrive in the fall of 2023, with September being the most likely broadcast schedule. The mentioned release window gave a bit of hope to the fans, even though the exact release date wasn’t even disclosed because, at the time, it was way too soon to confirm such crucial information.

It’s been a while, and now it looks like CBS should have waited a bit before reporting the confirmed 2023–24 fall schedule, as it has sadly been overshadowed by sudden changes that are likely to be revealed in the following weeks, as indicated by George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS, and Chief Content Officer, during a keynote at Banff moderated by Deadline’s Peter White. He elaborated that the revised CBS fall scheduling plans will be officially revealed soon.

“We wanted to build our schedule for when the world goes back to normal,” Cheeks said. “Once we had done that, once we locked it in, we spent a lot of time focusing on what it was going to look like.” He elaborated on the revised CBS fall scheduling plans, which are expected to be officially revealed soon. Further adding, “First of all, obviously it’s going to be very reality-heavy.”

It looks like CBS didn’t factor in the potential impact of the ongoing writers’ strike and a possible SAG-AFTRA work stoppage. Making it one of the main reasons for such speculation to spread like wildfire now almost confirms that the ongoing 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, which hasn’t been resolved and has already started to cause major delays in various productions as the writer’s room has stopped working on scripts until a proper resolution is made in their favor.

Conclusion: There is a chance that the series might be aiming to release later in 2023 or even some time in 2024 if production is unable to resume this summer season. It is still expected to follow a similar schedule, with new episodes airing every Thursday at the same time slot of 8/7c on CBS and later on Paramount Plus. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next. Until then, one can only hope that the best outcome is derived from this circumstance and that both the writers and fans are treated fairly.

Young Sheldon Season 7 Plot: What to expect from the new season?

As of writing this, not much has been revealed about the seventh season, but the series is expected to follow the daily life of 14-year-old college student Sheldon in 1994–95. We would like to emphasize that if the series is going to showcase the year 1995, then there’s a major possibility that we’ll see Sheldon going to Dixie Trek to meet Wil Wheaton. Moreover, the series will continue to keep the basic premise of the show consistent, which is as follows:

For young Sheldon Cooper, it isn’t easy growing up in East Texas. Being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are kings. And while the vulnerable, gifted, and somewhat naive Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. In “Young Sheldon,” audiences get a chance to meet him in childhood as he embarks on his innocent, awkward, and hopeful journey towards the man he will become. Jim Parsons, who plays the adult version of Sheldon on “The Big Bang Theory,” narrates.

The plot is also expected to pick up from the final episode of the sixth season, “A Tornado, a 10-Hour Flight, and a Darn Fine Ring,” in which the viewers get to see Mary and Sheldon leave for the airport with Missy still angry with her parents and Sheldon. Mary is worried Sheldon will get upset on the plane, but he ends up talking to a famous scientist the whole time. Georgie gets a big advance on his pay from Connie to buy Mandy a proper engagement ring, and they go show Mandy’s parents. However, Mandy and Audrey get into another argument. As this happens, a tornado hits town, and George protects Missy.

Later, Dale and Connie are forced to show Pastor Jeff the gambling room while everyone from the laundromat takes shelter inside it, and Mandy and Audrey keep bickering. While everyone is physically safe and George comforts an emotional and apologetic Missy, Connie’s house is destroyed with her gambling room money scattered. As everyone helps her sort through the wreckage, she decides to move in with Dale while George offers Mandy and Cece Sheldon’s room. Sheldon and Mary land in Germany, unaware of what happened and unable to get anyone to answer the phone.

Young Sheldon Season 7: Will it be the last season?

Executive producer Steve Holland has hinted about the potential end of the show in an exclusive interview with TVLine, quoting, “We’ve certainly started to talk about [season 7 being the end]… When you’re in the middle of a season, it’s such a grind that we haven’t had too many in-depth conversations. But now, as we’re getting to the end [of Season 6], we’ve started to talk about it more.”

“There are certain things we know we want to hit next season, and there are certain things where, if it’s the end versus if it’s just [another season], those things might be different. It’s not my decision to make. I don’t think we’ll know for a while, but I don’t think it will affect the first half of [Season 7]; I think it will play out the same either way. But as we get near the end, I think it will play out differently depending on whether this is, or is not the final season.”

Further adding, “That’s certainly another thing that throws a wrench into it — if [a strike] happens, how long it goes on, and how many episodes this next season will end up being,” he explains. He further added, “Those are questions we can’t even answer; we’d just be speculating. So we certainly have a plan in place of where we’re aiming [to get] next season with some understanding, and some flexibility, that this may or may not be the end.”

So, there is a chance that the story might be heading towards a concluding arc for the show, which we are hopeful will be able to cover all the plotlines and bring the show to a definitive end, which the fans truly deserve after so many years!

What will happen to George Sr. in Young Sheldon?

It’s unknown whether George Sr. will die this season. However, presuming the time jump between seasons stays the same, this will be the season where Sheldon is 14 years old, and since it was the last season renewed, they’ll very likely kill off George Sr. at some point in the season and have to make this the last season. How many episodes will be there in Young Sheldon Season 7?

The next season is expected to be consistent with the episode count and include at least 22 episodes with a minimum duration of 18–21 minutes per episode.
