Is the hope of seeing Sheldon’s adventures in the future at stake? Continue reading to find out more about Young Sheldon Season 7.
It is a bit disheartening to see how the initial run of the 2023–24 broadcasting season, which was going rather smoothly, seems to have been tainted with sudden hurdles within a few weeks that have started to cause major difficulties for many show creators in scheduling the fall broadcasting season, which is arriving right around the corner and consists of some of the most talked about and watched legacy shows futures on the line!
Sadly, one of the shows mentioned on the list is the beloved coming-of-age sitcom “Young Sheldon,” which is quite shocking to see as it has been dominating the charts for CBS since its inception. Now, faith in the show’s most anticipated seventh season has been trapped in a web of delays. Yes, you read it right!
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, many writers’ rooms have stopped their work, which has raised concerns about the show’s future among their fans. If you’re wondering what kind of risk the show could pose down the road, then you’ve come to the perfect spot! Especially for you, we have assembled all of the critical information to help you be prepared for future changes that may be confirmed in a few weeks.
Here’s what we know so far about Season 7 of CBS’s Young Sheldon.
Young Sheldon Season 7 Release Date: Will it get delayed?
Right now, it appears the only danger the show is going to face is postponing the release window because the present writer’s strike appears to be far from being over! The series is safe from cancellation as there is a lot in the story left to explore, and CBS won’t scrap one of the top-charting series for such fixable reasons. Given the circumstances, it is not unrealistic to expect that CBS will release a revised autumn schedule shortly in order to fix the issue.
The revised schedule will help in addressing some issues by mentioning that CBS didn’t foresee or factor in the potential impact of the ongoing writers’ strike for the 2023–24 fall broadcast lineup. To add more validity to this point, the latest report by Deadline hints that CBS seems to be taking measures behind the scenes. As George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS and Chief Content Officer, said during a keynote at Banff moderated by Deadline’s Peter White:
“We wanted to build our schedule for when the world goes back to normal,” Cheeks said. “Once we had done that, once we locked it in, we spent a lot of time focusing on what it’s going to look like.” He elaborated on the revised CBS fall scheduling plans, which are expected to be officially revealed soon. He said, “First of all, obviously it’s going to be very reality-heavy.” George Cheeks was also questioned about the studio’s discussions with the leading Hollywood guilds and the ongoing WGA strike.
He discussed the variations between the broadcast and streaming economic models and referred to the recently achieved preliminary deal with the DGA as “helpful.” Hence, after looking at these statements, it’s pretty much safe to say that the majority of the show’s release date from the CBS fall schedule will be changed. This list also includes Young Sheldon Season 7, which might resume filming sometime later and eventually be released by late 2023 or even in 2024!
We’ll just have to wait and see what direction the creators will steer toward that is favorable for both the writers and the fans.
Young Sheldon Season 7 Plot: What to expect?
As of writing this, not much has been revealed about the seventh season, but it is expected to follow the daily life of 14-year-old college student Sheldon in 1994–95. We would like to emphasize that if the series is going to showcase the year 1995, then there’s a major possibility that we’ll see Sheldon going to Dixie Trek to meet Wil Wheaton. Moreover, the series will continue to keep the basic premise of the show consistent, which is as follows:
For young Sheldon Cooper, it isn’t easy growing up in East Texas. Being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are kings. And while the vulnerable, gifted, and somewhat naive Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. In “Young Sheldon,” audiences get a chance to meet him in childhood as he embarks on his innocent, awkward, and hopeful journey toward the man he will become.
The plot is also expected to pick up from the final episode of the sixth season, “A Tornado, a 10-Hour Flight, and a Darn Fine Ring.” The episode is directed by Alex Reid and written by Steve Molaro, Jeremy Howe, Nadiya Chettiar, Steve Holland, Connor Kilpatrick, and Ben Slaughter. In the episode, the viewers got to see that Sheldon and Mary head to Germany while the rest of the Cooper family braves a tornado that is heading straight for Medford.
Take a look at the official promo of the final episode to recall the events which have transpired so far:
Young Sheldon Season 7 Cast and Crew
The main cast members from the sixth season are expected to reprise their roles in the new season, which includes Iain Armitage as Sheldon Cooper, Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper, Montana Jordan as George “Georgie” Cooper Jr., Raegan Revord as Missy Cooper, Annie Potts as Meemaw, Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper (voice only), Matt Hobby as Jeff Difford, Wyatt McClure as Billy Sparks, Lance Barber as George Cooper Sr., and Emily Osment as Mandy McAllister.
The recurring cast members include Wallace Shawn as John Sturgis, Craig T. Nelson as Dale Ballard, Dan Byrd as Pastor Rob, Ryan Phuong as Tam Nguyen, Danielle Pinnock as Evelyn Ingram, and Rex Linn as Principal Tom Petersen. There can be some new additions to the cast if the show creators want to expand the plotlines, which will be confirmed later once the release date for the new season is disclosed by the CBS network.
The television series was created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro for CBS. It is also produced by Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc., in association with Warner Bros Television. Lorre, Steven Molaro, Parsons, and Todd Spiewak are executive producers.
Young Sheldon Season 7 Episodes and Streaming Options
The next season is expected to be consistent with the episode count and includes at least 22 episodes with an average duration of 18–21 minutes per episode. We would also like to highlight that the show creators can also increase or decrease the episode count depending on the current status of the writer strike, which can cause major delays in production.
The upcoming season along with all the previous six seasons, is currently available to stream on CBS, Paramount Plus, and FuboTV, which are ideal platforms for international viewers. The series is also available to rent or buy on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, and Vudu, depending on the viewer’s location, with membership plans that the users can choose from.

Young Sheldon Season 7 Frequently Asked Questions
When was Young Sheldon Season 7 renewed?
This season was renewed on March 30, 2021, along with Seasons 5 and 6 as part of a multi-season order, which concluded for the 2023-24 CBS broadcast season.
If the season is delayed, when will it be released?
If production is delayed owing to the writer’s strike, the seventh season might be aired in 2024 since the network may choose not to start shooting new episodes without a finished script, causing further delays.
What will happen to Sheldon and Georgie?
It’s unclear whether we’ll see Sheldon’s junior year at college and Georgie on his own. It is uncertain if George Sr. will die this season. However, presuming the time jump between seasons stays the same, this will be the season where Sheldon is 14 years old and since it was the last season renewed, they’ll very likely kill off George Sr. at some point in the season and have to make this the last season.
Will Sheldon meet Wil Wheaton?
There is a chance only if the season crosses into 1995; it’s possible we’ll see Sheldon going to Dixie Trek to meet Wil Wheaton.
Is there any new trailer for Season 7?
The filming of the new season hasn’t begun because of the ongoing writer’s strike. So, there is no way that the network will be able to release any new promotional material for the fans to know about the plot of the next season.
Will it be the last season?
Executive producer Steve Holland has hinted about the potential end of the show in an exclusive interview with TVLine, quoting, “We’ve certainly started to talk about [season 7 being the end]… When you’re in the middle of a season, it’s such a grind that we haven’t had too many in-depth conversations. But now, as we’re getting to the end [of Season 6], we’ve started to talk about it more.”
“There are certain things we know we want to hit next season, and there are certain things where, if it’s the end versus if it’s just [another season], those things might be different. It’s not my decision to make. I don’t think we’ll know for a while, but I don’t think it will affect the first half of [Season 7]; I think it will play out the same either way. But as we get near the end, I think it will play out differently depending on whether this is, or is not the final season.”
