FBI Season 6 Release Date: When is it expected to make its comeback?

If you recall, the crime drama series was officially renewed for a sixth season back in May 2022, when CBS renewed the series for a fifth and sixth season together as a part of the 2023–24 broadcast season, which was an exciting update for the fans who were eagerly awaiting any confirmation. Even though the good news kept on coming, the surprises and anticipation for its release were short-lived due to the ongoing 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, which started a few weeks ago and doesn’t seem to end anytime soon, causing many production houses to halt their work temporarily.

There are many reports circulating confirming that the writing for the upcoming season has not started, which is quite unfortunate when we consider the fact that filming usually begins by the summer season if the network is aiming for its fall release later this year. So, if we look at the current status, one thing is pretty much clear: the network might be considering some crucial changes behind the scenes for its upcoming fall primetime schedule.

Hence, providing any updates for its potential release date as of this writing seems quite impossible! We assume that the ongoing writer’s strike can lead to a major delay in production, eventually forcing the creators to skip the 2023 fall premiere, which was confirmed last month by the network, and eventually modify and set the release window for some time in 2024 if the situation isn’t resolved soon. On the other hand, there is still a chance that the only update we get in June might be that the network decides to publish the show’s revised release dates in order to avoid further confusion.

Additionally, the latest report by Deadline states that CBS already seems to be taking crucial measures and might have started to look at alternative dates for the release of these popular shows!

George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS and Chief Content Officer, during a keynote at Banff moderated by Deadline’s Peter White, stated, “We wanted to build our schedule for when the world goes back to normal,” Cheeks said. “Once we had done that, once we locked it in, we spent a lot of time focusing on what it’s going to look like.” He elaborated that a revised CBS fall scheduling plan is expected to be revealed soon. “First of all, obviously it’s going to be very reality-heavy,” he said.

After looking at these official comments, it’s not farfetched to assume that the content of the CBS fall schedule can be changed and that most of the shows, including FBI Season 6, might be put on hold for their production in order to resume sometime later and eventually be released by late 2023 or even some time in 2024! It’s just a matter of time until the revised schedule is released. Until then, this is simply our opinion on the matter that the creators may take the late completion of the scripts into account and consider the best plan without any unnecessary hurdles in the future.

Hence, we request the fans to be patient and keep a close eye on the social media platforms to get all the details on the potential release date, which will eventually be acknowledged.

FBI Season 6 Plot: What can the fans expect to see in the new season?

Due to an early two-season pickup, not much has been disclosed about the plot, but the new season will definitely explore the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. First-class agents, including Maggie Bell and Omar Adom “OA” Zidan, bring all of their talents, intellect, and technical expertise to tenaciously investigate cases of tremendous magnitude, including terrorism, organized crime, and counterintelligence, to keep New York and the country safe.

“Everybody who works on these three shows is over the moon about the multi-year pickups,” added Dick Wolf, executive producer and FBI brand creator. “We are all incredibly grateful to CBS and our partners at Universal Television and CBS Studios. And I personally would like to thank the incredible casts, talented writers, and dedicated producers, not to mention the three crews who never missed an air date despite the difficulties of producing full seasons during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“The FBIs are one of the most successful brands in the entire TV landscape and a powerful cornerstone of our number one lineup,” said Kelly Kahl, President of CBS Entertainment. “They’ve attracted a dedicated, loyal fan base, thanks to the extraordinary vision of executive producer Dick Wolf and the talents of all three outstanding casts and creative teams. I know we and our viewers look forward to two additional seasons of engaging, heroic stories.”

Lastly, even though there is so much silence about the exact plot, there is no doubt that the new season will continue the plot and character arcs from the finale episode, “God Complex,” of the fifth season, in which the viewers got to see that when a prominent doctor is found dead in a ritualistic slaying, the team must race against time to hunt down a religiously motivated serial killer. Later, the viewers see Scola faces a life-or-death decision.
