Accused Season 2 Release Date: When is the series expected to return on FOX?
As of writing this, no official release date for Accused Season 2 has been confirmed, despite being renewed for a second season earlier this year in March 2023! Hence, it is currently unknown when the season will be released, and the chances of it premiering in September 2023 seem pretty impossible!
We say this due to the ongoing 2023 Writers Guild of America strike along with the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which started weeks ago and doesn’t seem to end anytime soon, causing many production houses to halt their work temporarily with reports circulating that the writing for the upcoming season has not started, which is quite unfortunate when we consider the fact that filming usually begins by the summer season if the network is aiming for its fall release later this year.
Right now, it looks like the eagerly awaited new season of the series, which was one of the highest-rated and most-watched debuts on FOX in 3 years, will not be available to stream anytime soon, especially in the fall season or later this year, making the fandom wait for longer than they anticipated! So, if we look at the current status, one thing is noted: the network might be considering some crucial changes behind the scenes for its primetime schedule, just like NBC, ABC, and CBS.
These competing networks have decided to shift the fall schedule for the next year, which will be ideal to avoid any further delays in production. In conclusion, if the strikes don’t reach an agreement by October 2023, then the creators of the show and the network will be forced to skip the 2023 fall premiere and eventually modify and set the release window for some time around the midseason premiere of 2024 as a mid-season premiere and a new schedule will be confirmed by FOX in the coming weeks.
In order to fill the empty slots in the fall schedule, we speculated that FOX might follow in the footsteps of its competitor network and decided to incorporate unscripted shows along with reruns of the prior seasons in case the fans haven’t streamed them before. In conclusion, until there is any official confirmation, we suggest the viewers be patient and follow all the social media platforms to be updated with the latest updates. Additionally, the official Twitter handle also confirmed the renewal, quoting, “This is BIG! #AccusedOnFOX and AlertOnFOX have both been renewed for Season 2.”

Accused Season 2: What to expect from the new season?
In order to avoid early spoilers, not much has been revealed, but it is expected to follow the basic premise, which this American crime drama television series has been known for with just one season that has been developed by Howard Gordon and is based on the 2010 British series of the same name, created by Jimmy McGovern.
So, it’s pretty evident that the next season is also expected to continue the same premise as the previous season, which follows ordinary people, wherein each episode opens in a courtroom, introducing the accused without knowing their crime or how they ended up on trial. The audience is then told the events that led them there from the defendant’s point of view. The series features different stories of crime and punishment. Told from the defendant’s point of view through flashbacks, each episode explores a different crime in a different city, with a new cast.
The first season was anchored by Michael Chiklis, Abigail Breslin, Whitney Cummings, Margo Martindale, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Wendell Pierce, Rachel Bilson, Jack Davenport, Molly Parker, Rhea Perlman, Betsy Brandt, Keith Carradine, Aisha Dee, Jason Ritter. So, there is a chance they might return, which will be confirmed later. Directors include Billy Porter, Marlee Matlin, Tazbah Chavez, and Michael Chiklis. It is executive produced by Gordon, Alex Gansa, David Shore, Glenn Geller, Erin Gunn, Jacob Cohen-Holmes, Jimmy McGovern, Sita Williams, Roxy Spencer, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, and Louise Pedersen.

Take a look at some of the official statements by Michael Thorn, President of Scripted Programming at Fox, which gives an insight into what the viewers can expect to see in the next season, “Accused and Alert stand out as two of this season’s new broadcast and multi-platform success stories. Looking to 2023-24, we’ll continue to deliver on the powerful storytelling coming from both series, building on our incredible partnership with Sony and further solidifying Fox’s strong slate of dramas, giving our schedule tremendous season-to-season stability.”
“With Accused, Howard Gordon has taken the crime anthology to new heights and acclaim, featuring an all-star roster of directors and talent headlining gripping episodes that entertain viewers with a provocative, fresh take on many of the most relevant, timely issues of our day,” he added. “Scott, Dania, John, and Jamie have done an incredible job launching Alert and bringing its story into heart-pounding focus, giving us an emotionally intense procedural drama that’s primed for even more success as Carla takes the day-to-day reins, continuing the great work we’ve seen this season.”
“We are excited to continue our long partnership with Fox to bring more Accused and Alert to audiences around the world,” added Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television. “It’s wonderful to see these timely, poignant stories resonating with viewers, and we want to congratulate the writers, producers, cast, and crew on their success. We are incredibly proud of their collective work and look forward to seeing where these series go next.”

Accused Season 2 Official Episode Count: How many will be there, and where to stream?
The second season is expected to include at least 15 episodes with an average duration of 44 minutes, just like the first season, to be consistent with the plotlines. We would also like to highlight that the filming of the new season is speculated to be put on hold because of the ongoing dual strikes, and the chances of the network releasing details about the new episodes are minimal in order to avoid spoilers. So, there is no way that the network will be able to release any new promotional material along with the official titles and synopsis for these new episodes.
When released, Accused Season 2, along with all the prior episodes, will be available to stream on the Fox network and official website (after broadcast) and app for free based on the user’s location along with Hulu Plus and FuboTV, with a vast number of membership plans according to the preferences of the users. You can also stream Accused by renting or purchasing it from Amazon Instant Video and Google Play. In order to receive updates on when the show premieres, interested viewers can also enable notifications on the streaming services.

Accused Season 2 Official Trailer: Is it available?
As stated above, the network hasn’t released any new promos for the second season as filming hasn’t yet commenced, leaving a lot of time for the official marketing to begin, which usually begins a month or two before the premiere. We’ll just have to wait and see what the next few months have in store for us in relation to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike along with the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, as everything concerning the filming status is also neither here nor there!
Due to this, we are certain that no new promos will be released anytime soon. In the meantime, check out the official trailer for Accused first season below, which received fairly great reviews.
The website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 56% approval rating with an average rating of 7.3/10, based on 16 critic reviews. The website’s critics’ consensus reads, “While Accused is yet another variation on a very familiar theme, its anthology structure offers enough flexibility and star power for some compelling courtroom stories.” Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 60 out of 100 based on 12 critics, indicating “mixed or average reviews.”
While you wait for more updates on Accused Season 2, catch up with the previous episodes, which are now available to stream on FOX.
