According to Netflix, In the Japanese sci-fi thriller, Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) are trapped in Borderland, a world that exists between life and death. If they want to survive, they must play and win a series of games in order to collect numbered cards – the key to returning to their original world. However, those that lose meet a deadly fate.

In the first season, we’re introduced to Usagi’s friends, their enemies, and the mastermind behind the game. The 10 players who win the games at the end of Season 1 will be returning – but the question is, what will they face next? According to Yamazaki, things are only getting bigger and better. “We had these really large-scale scenes every day and the world of the show is bigger than ever,” he told Netflix. Tsuchiya also added, “Each shot has big set pieces, like explosions. I was able to experience it like my character Usagi, in those realistic scenes. Every day was such a valuable experience for me. I felt it was a really enjoyable time.”

The main cast members of the series, with their character descriptions, who will reprise their roles in the last season are as follows: Kento Yamazaki as Ryōhei Arisu: A 24-year-old video game-obsessed man who “doesn’t fit in with his family” and Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi: A mountain climber who was transported into the empty city of Tokyo shortly after the death of her father, whom she deeply respected.

Usagi teams up with Arisu shortly after the deaths of his friends. The other cast members in the second season are Nijiro Murakami as Chishiya, Ayaka Miyoshi as Ann, Dori Sakurada as Niragi, Aya Asahina as Kuina, Yutaro Watanabe as Tatta, Tsuyoshi Abe as Kuzuryu, Sho Aoyagi as Aguni, and Riisa Naka as Mira.

The season is also expected to continue the plot from the final season of the first season, simply titled “Episode 8,” which was released on December 10, 2020. It is directed by Shinsuke Sato and written by Yoshiki Watabe, Yasuko Kuramitsu, & Shinsuke Sato.

In the episode, the viewers got to see that, in a flashback, Momoka walks through the deserted city with her friend Asahi, filming videos with a functioning phone. In the present, Arisu confronts Aguni, who confesses to shooting his best friend Hatter in self-defense, believing he is the “witch.” Momoka, the true witch, committed suicide.

As Aguni attempts to kill Niragi, who is still intent on murdering everyone in the room, the remaining players toss Momoka into the bonfire and win the game. Later in the episode, Chishiya receives the final card. The next day, Arisu and Usagi watched the videos that Asahi, who committed suicide during the game, had recorded. Asahi and Momoka reveal in them that they are “dealers,” players who organize games to extend their visas.

In one video, the duo visits an underground lair inhabited by “gamemasters.” Arisu and Usagi find the lair but find the “gamemasters” dead. Chishiya and Kuina appear and discover that the “gamemasters” were, in fact players. Mira, a woman, appears and introduces a new set of games for collecting face cards.
