” To save the majority, just how heartless are you allowed to be? “
Different from the mainstream zombie series and movies that we have come across, ‘All of Us Are Dead’ is a debunked story. Throughout Season 1, we are reminded that the morality roles in society are not a black-and-white affair. The lines are blurred. It is all about who’s in power and how they decide to use it.
Our desperate hopes for a Season renewal were met by Netflix when it made an official announcement of its comeback on June 6, 2022.
Check out the announcement video here:
All of Us Are Dead Season 2 Renewal Status
Yes! We were all super-hyped to hear a renewal of Season 2 on 6th June 2022 by Netflix, although it was pretty evident. Ever since the release of the series on January 2022, fans have been hooked on this apocalyptic Korean drama, so renewing it for another Season only seemed logical.
All of Us Are Dead Season 2: Release Date Update
While there is no official announcement on the same, Director Lee Jal Q spoke to Korea Herald, saying that the filming for Season 2 has not begun. This leaves us in a bit of a rut because we were hoping Season 2 to air by Fall 2023. On top of that, the recent WGA strike has also added up to the uncertainness surrounding its release.
If and only if the strike subsides and filming begins within the next two months, we can expect All of Us Are Dead Season 2 to arrive by the first half of 2024.
All of Us Are Dead Season 2: Trailer
Since there is no word on the filming aspect of the season, as well as the deficiency of a formal announcement of a trailer release date, there is no teaser or official trailer for Season 2.
You can watch the trailer for Season 1 in the meantime.
Where To Watch All of Us Are Dead Season 2
Since there is no formal announcement on the release date of Season 2, it has not aired yet. When it does, it will air on Netflix, and you can easily binge-watch it, provided you have a subscription.
Meanwhile, you can watch Season 1 of All Of Us Are Dead on Netflix right now. It totals a 12-hour watch with 12 episodes with an average runtime of 53 to 72 minutes.
All of Us Are Dead Season 2: Expected Plot (fan theories)
There is a list of things we can expect to see in Season 2 of the franchise, so let us dive into some of the major fan theories that we can expect to be answered in the follow-up season.
Will there be another zombie outbreak in Season 2?
Although the government could successfully contain the zombie apocalypse to Hyosan, Season 1 never showed us a complete suppression of the same. We know for sure that there are quite a few zombies who did not perish in the fire on the rooftop.
In correspondence, we can expect another outbreak to take place next season.
It is worth mentioning that according to the webtoon Naver (upon which the series is based), the virus is not just contained to Korea, it spreads overseas.
We can expect an interesting take on this theory whereby one infected zombie breaks out of Hyosan and renders another outbreak, preferably within Korea. Otherwise, it might turn into a whole world-order series.
What is Jonus Virus?
This fundamental question surrounding the Jonus virus was not made clear through Season 1. All we know is that the science teacher of Hyosan High School invented it to create a stronger version of his son in order to enable him to fight off the bullies. However, he miscalculated the repercussions, and a one-minute mistake changed the lives of the people of Hyosan forever. In a way, he sacrificed humanity for his own selfish needs.
In the tapes that he left behind with regard to the Jonus virus, he extracted testosterone and enhanced it to create superhumans who no one could defeat. All this so that his son could fight back against bullies in high school! Talk about a parent’s determination to better their child.
He also said that the virus adapts and evolves itself and creates new strains (doesn’t it sound similar to a pandemic virus we recently faced?) when it detects an antibody, thereby destroying the core function of the antibodies (to destroy the virus).
We also discovered that a sound wave frequency of 24KHz affected them, and this very method was used to lure them onto the rooftop of the school and bomb them all together.
We also know that there is no cure for the virus other than death. In an episode, Mr. Lee says.
” A treatment or a vaccine is impossible.
There is only one solution.
Death.”
When the creator of a deadly virus states this, it is likely that there is no hope. Right? Right?! WRONG! Where there is a will there is a way.
Since we have not been let on much about the virus, we don’t know what the cure could be. But that does not mean they will stop trying. This is an avenue we can expect Season 2 to explore in detail.
Is Mr. Lee a Hybrid?
This is a new type of zombie who is definitely infected by the virus, but after interacting with the human’s antibodies, turn them into half zombies or ‘hambies.’ That’s definitely a noteworthy hashtag!
They are seen as different from the normal zombies in relation to their demeanor which is calmer and not disheveled and directionless like the others. This can prove to be a positive attribute (in the case of Nam-Ra) or a ghastly fate (in the case of our antagonist Gwi Nam).
When Mr. Lee was a bit, it was a scene to relive. He walked calmly ahead, facing the screen against a contrasting backdrop of chaotic rumpled zombies.
In Season 2, we can either expect him to rile up the zombies against humanity, or we can watch him help the hybrids control the catastrophe.
What happened to Nam-Ra?
Oh, the final scene with Nam-Ra made us reach for the tissues. Nam-Ra turned out to be a Hamby initially and decided to part ways with her friends and stayed back in Hyosan. This is because although she was calm and composed, the insatiable hunger for human flesh almost drove her to feed on her friends.
In the final scene, she has a reunion with her friends ( the remaining six who are still human) Su-hyeok, On-jo, Dae-su, Hyo-ryung, Mi-jin, and Ha-ri. Here she is seen as extremely composed and thriving, which means she has found a way out to co-exist as a hybrid. She said that she had to stay back and protect those like her from the government won’t think twice before blowing them up.
In a way, Nam-Ra turned out to be the expected end result of the experiment and an ideal personality of what Mr. Lee expected of his son when he created the virus for him.
We cannot wait to watch Nam-Ra take the lead next season and embody the ‘Hamby Hero’ we never expected! She might even make for a new superhero.
Is Lee Cheong San still alive in All of Us Are Dead Season 2?
Now is this a speculation we can only wait for Season 2 to cover? Last we saw Cheong San. He perished in the fire with Gwi-Nam. However, in the pile of ash, what we can see are burnt bodies, and one of them looks like that of Cheong San.
If he does return in the next season, we can also expect the unkillable Nemesis Gwi-Nam to also return with him.
We all await the announcement of the release of Season 2 for All of Us Are Dead. Stay tuned to this space and turn on your notifications for constant updates on your favorite series and movies.
