On March 9, 2022, Netflix officially renewed the series for two more seasons. According to What’s on Netflix, the reason why Vikings: Valhalla renewed its second and third season so early is “the huge upfront order the show received”. The total order included 24 episodes.

Has the production of Vikings: Valhalla season 2 begun?
Going all hell for leather for season 2, the directors and actors have all wrapped up the filming part of the season. The series wrapped up production in November 2021 in Ireland. Vikings: Valhalla’s screenwriter, Jeb Stuart, mentioned that around the time of season 1’s release, he was “finishing the editing of the last episode of season two”.
Not wasting a minute here; the production of season 3 is already gearing up. According to Netflix’s official announcement, the production of Season 3 will begin in Spring 2022. In addition to this, Jeb Stuart, in conversation with Digital Spy, also mentioned that Season 3 will be ‘very exciting’ since the Vikings will be moving out of Scandinavia, which we think will hold the crux of the season.

When will Vikings: Valhalla Season 2 release?
Although Vikings: Valhalla Season 2 has pretty much passed the post-production stage, it won’t be released before 2023. Netflix hasn’t officially announced an exact release date. However, we can presume that it might premiere in early 2023, considering the release date of season 1.
What can the audience expect to see in Vikings: Valhalla Season 2?
Vikings: Valhalla has taken several creative liberties in Season 1, but the audience can expect to watch some of the major historical events being taken into consideration in season 2, especially when we keep in mind the time frame in which the upcoming season is set.
Vikings: Valhalla Season 2 is expected to highlight the life of Leif, who has been bestowed with the ocean of sorrow owing to the Greenlander’s journey to the east. As you might know, the greatest shock that came to Leif was Lif’s death, his lover, whose existence prevented him from becoming his monstrous father, Erik the Red. With her death, Leif, like the Achilles of Illiad, donned a pair of axes with no armor and tore through the entire group of Viking warriors. Season 2 will deal with the repercussions of the new version of Leif.
The new season of Vikings: Valhalla will also center around Harald Sigurdson, also known as Harald Hardarda. With the unwavering support of King Cnut, Harald’s exploits have turned indelible, but his fate as a king still remains in the dark. In conversation with The Wrap, the actor Leo Suter said, “Harald’s been screwed over. Massively screwed over, and what’s more, it’s not just him who’s been screwed over, but it’s his loved ones who’ve been screwed over……But yeah, there’s certainly been some serious wrongs that have befallen him. So, lets’ see in Season 2 what happens with that.”
With the support of his wife and his father, King Cnut is all set to conquer the throne of Denmark and fulfill his vision of a Great Northern Empire. However, England was not known for its ‘Glorious Revolution’ earlier; it was only later that the historic moment was observed. So, the audience can expect relentless ambition to control the actions of the powerful in season 2 and the havoc it wreaks.
How many episodes will Vikings: Valhalla Season 2 constitute?
Three seasons in total are said to constitute 24 episodes, so each season will have eight episodes. In addition to this, according to What’s on Netflix, season 3 is expected to feature George Maniakes, who is a phenomenal general of the Byzantine Empire. His role will be reprised by Florian Munteanu.
With such a phenomenal cast and riveting plotline, it gets harder and harder to wait for the sequel of Vikings: Valhalla. Until then, stay tuned for more updates.
