Read on to find the latest updates on Barbarians Season 2.
Historical drama and war-related series are becoming popular on Netflix. Take, for example, Outlander, Roman Empire, and The Last Kingdom. Another series from this genre that has captured the attention of the viewers in recent times is Barbarians.
For the unversed, Barbarians is a historical war drama series that shows us the story of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, a real-life skirmish that took place around 9 CE, which saw the Germanic people fighting off the Romans, who were trying to turn more of the country into part of the Roman Empire. In this event, the Germanic forces were able to prevent Roman emperor Augustus from conquering the land east of the river Rhine.
Arminius was the one who made the Germanic tribes come together and unite in order to take down the Roman forces. He was kidnapped by the Roman Empire as a child, and he took his revenge by pulling in the Roman military and then using their own ways against them.
The series premiered on October 23, 2020, and received a good response from the audience and critics. Film historian Sheena Scott rated Barbarians for Forbes as “an excellent series that reveals a key historical event in Europe through a gripping tale of love, friendship, betrayal, and revenge”.
Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for the second season of the series, which was renewed on November 10, 2020.

Barbarians Season 2 Plot
Netflix Germany has dropped a synopsis for Barbarians Season 2 that reads, “A year after the Varus Battle, the Roman troops have returned to Germania, stronger than ever, and Ari is once again confronted with his Roman past. His brother has joined the Roman side to punish Ari for his betrayal of Rome. While Thusnelda and Ari try to unite the tribes against Rome, Folkwin makes a sinister challenge to the gods.”
There are plenty of things that will be explored in Barbarians Season 2. In the previous season, Arminius and Thusnelda successfully managed to unite the Germanic tribes under one roof and took on the three Roman Regions which resulted in a big defeat for the Roman Empire. But the darkness for Arminius and Thusnelda is far from over as Thusnelda’s father is plotting a big attack with Hadgan to take power from Arminius for themselves. Also, the Emporer of Rome, Tiberius, is organizing another army. So, the war with Rome is not over yet.
If the series goes as per the events of history, we also expect Folkwin’s oath with the gods and the revelation that Thusnelda is pregnant with Folkwin’s child. This will definitely cause some problems for the three of them as Thusnelda wants to rule alongside Arminius and Folkwin may be intent on killing him to take the crown for himself.

We expect the main cast to return for the second season, including:
Laurence Rupp as Arminius

David Schütter as Folkwin Wolfspeer
Bernhard Schütz as Segestes
Nicki von Tempelhoff as Segimer
Valerio Morigi as Metellus
