Ever since the fifth season of Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) bid its adieu on September 3rd, 2021, fans have been craving more Money Heist content. Although the franchise is over, Netflix is still capitalizing on one of its biggest shows, either through a South Korean remake or a full-fledged spin-off, underscoring one of the most fan-favorite characters, Berlin.

A spin-off about Berlin was rumored to be concretized ever since the final season touched down in two parts in September 2021 on the official streaming platform. The creator of La Casa de Papel, Alex Pina, hinted at expanding the lives of the characters which were introduced in the mothership series.

Speaking to Oprah Daily, Pina disclosed about the spin-off, saying, “We do have many possibilities for some spinoffs, yes, and I think that’s thanks to the strong and powerful identities of the characters. We’ve always looked for characters to have a very complex, layered design. So I think almost every character of Money Heist has a duality that we would like to see in a spinoff. We could watch any of them in other contexts.”

Berlin spin-off was officially unveiled in late November 2021, that is, before season 5 part 2 arrived on Netflix. The spin-off was officially disclosed through a caption (translated into English) that reads: “We already met Berlin in#LaCasaDePapeland now is the time for Andrés de Fonollosa. We can already announce that in 2023 the spin-off of his life will arrive.”

That being said, here’s everything we know so far about this Money Heist spin-off series, including its release date, plot, cast and more.

The series, as the title suggests, will underscore the life of the eponymous character, Berlin, who is originally known as Andrés de Fonollosa. The spin-off is speculated to emphasize the backstory of Berlin, despite it being briefly explored in season 5, since there is a litany of layers remaining to unravel in regards to this mysteriously charming character, including the fact that he has five ex-wives, one of which is called Tatiana, whose role will reportedly be played by Diana Gómez. In the series, he has described his relationships as the “5 times that he believed in love.”

Most importantly, the spin-off will underscore the relationship between Berlin and The Professor, given that they are disclosed to be brothers. It is expected to predominantly explore their early years together. Not only that but the spin-off is also expected to shed some light on the demise of their father and how he met Palermo, Marsella and Bogotá. In addition to this, we also expect to see Berlin making a heist in Champs-Élysées, Paris, wherein he reportedly stole 434 diamonds. The upcoming spin-off is anticipated to feature Berlin’s battle with Helmer Myopathy.

During Netflix’s 2022 Tudum event, Pedro Alonso and Alex Pina discussed the upcoming spin-off, saying: “This is going to be a trip throughout the golden years of the character. When he was stealing all over Europe, madly in love.” By answering “Love and heists” when asked what the new series will be about, the duo spiked the excitement of the fans.

The creators of the show also revealed the first script, which is referred to as the 33rd version, the first episode being titled “Historias de Paris” also translated to “Paris Stories.” The script was reportedly written by David Oliva, David Barrocal, Esther Martinez Lobato and Alex Pina.
