Netflix’s Korean sci-fi series, Black Knight, has captured audiences with its six engrossing episodes. In a futuristic Korea destroyed by air pollution, where resources are very limited, and a cruel social hierarchy prevails, only a small fraction of people survive. These survivors are dependent on specialized deliverymen known as “knights” for their essential requirements, such as oxygen.
The story centers around 5-8, a legendary knight who leads a rebellion against the tyrannical hierarchy with the help of other knights. Sa-wol, a refugee aiming to become a knight, joins their cause, while Major Seol-ah finds out the dark secrets of the powerful Cheonmyeong Group, the actual rulers of this world.
Starring Kim Woo-bin as the formidable and respected deliverymen 5-8, the fans who have completed this show are eagerly waiting and anticipating the arrival of the second season. Here’s everything we know about Black Knight season 2.
Black Knight season 2: renewed or canceled?
Although the recently released Korean series on Netflix hasn’t been renewed as of May 12th, the chances of a second season seem thin. The first season winds up the story thoroughly in its six episodes, solving the conflict and bringing about positive changes in the futuristic world. The tyrannical social hierarchy is taken down, the villain is defeated, and efforts are made to improve the oxygen supply system and air quality. Essentially, the story seems to have reached its conclusion.
Furthermore, it is worth noticing that the series is diverging from the webtoon it’s based on, so there isn’t an existing source material that would supply material for a potential second season. The creators could always come up with new plotlines for a continuation; it is common for Netflix Korean series to have only one season.
At this point, it appears that Black Knight is destined to be a standalone show.
Black Knight season 2: What can we expect?
Season 2 picked up right after the season one finale, which consisted of 5-8 deliverymen and a criminal deliveryman who got together with Major Seol-ah with the aim of stopping the hierarchy, which was butchering and executing the refugees. So with the help of the new men, they defeated the powerful Cheonmyeong Group, captained by Ryu Seok.
Ryu Seok was last seen when he defeated his father, engulfed in rage and attacked by flames after he initiated an explosion. Even though fire can kill a normal person, Ryu Seok wasn’t affected. This is explained by the events after his blood transfusion from a reluctant mutant, which not only cured his disease but also made him resilient to normal human constraints by improving his genetic composition.
