Bridgerton is recreating the 1800s for two years, and a new sequel is also on its way to amaze us. Netflix’s hit Bridgerton has garnered a lot of positive responses from around the world. Just a month later, it outranked the top series on Netflix and reached more than 40% of its subscribers which shows the height of success the regency romance drama gained. As a result, Netflix already announced Bridgerton Season 3 and 4 in April 2020.
The American Award-winning show, Bridgerton is based on the book series written by Julia Quinn. Its third sequel is on its way to release somewhere in 2023, but when and what all other news exists related to it, let’s find out in this essay.
Bridgerton Season 1 & 2 Recap
The hit Netflix series, Bridgerton is set in the early 1800s in London, where young unmarried people used to find their better halves in the social season of the year. Bridgerton family, one of the royal families of London, had eight kids, and every kid had a story. These kids were Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacintha. So, the series revolves around young people’s love interests and the secrets they are hiding.
There’s a mysterious lady in the town, namely “Lady Whistledown”, who releases a note which generally includes the secrets of the royal family. Later, it is revealed that Penelope Featherington was the mysterious newsletter, “Lady Whistledown”. Penelope Featherington is Eloise’s close friend. She felt jealous when she saw Eloise getting a nice guy, before her. Even this girl creates a lot of drama in the series.
Daphne, the eldest Bridgerton daughter, is attracted to Simon Basset, the new Duke of Hastings. Both of them had feelings for each other, but they were reluctant to express themselves. Simon’s background was horrifying. His father used to torture him when he was a kid. His father wanted Simon to be a perfect and ideal man, but as he was so harsh on Simon, things didn’t go as he wished. When his father was on his deathbed, Simon decided – he will never get married and have kids. Not only this, they face rivals, ups and downs, and whatnot, but in the end, love wins. Simon gets married to Daphne. They even have a kid at the end of season one.
The second season revolves around the romance between Anthony and Kate. However, Anthony had been in a secret relationship with a poor-class girl in the first season, but they broke up. In season 2, it’s time for the victory of Anthony and Kate’s love. Anthony is the eldest son and the 9th Viscount Bridgerton. He has a personality mostly of anger, so he generally behaves rudely. The reason behind his behavior is the loss of his father, whom he loved the most. Also, his mom died out of the grief of her lover’s demise. What to expect from Bridgerton Season 3?
The synopsis from the official source says that this season Penelope Featherington, who had a crush on Colin Bridgerton, decided to give up on crushing over a guy, she rather wants a husband now. The reason was that she heard Colin saying disparaging words about her, last season. Now, she longs for a husband who will understand her enough and let her handle both her personalities (Lady Whistledown and a normal girl). However, she fails to match with someone as she lacks confidence. Meanwhile, colin returns from a trip and he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope isn’t behaving the same as she used to. But, he wants her friendship back so he tries to be with her.
Bridgerton Season 3 release date
There is no official release date confirmed for Bridgerton Season 3 yet, but if we observe the release dates of previous seasons, we can predict that season 3 might be dropping in the second quarter of 2023. The first season of Bridgerton was released on December 25, 2020, whereas the second season was available on Netflix on March 25, 2022. The streaming platform, Netflix, is yet to disclose the release date for Bridgerton Season 3, but we might see a date soon.

Jonathan Bailey is playing the role of Anthony Bridgerton. He is the eldest of all his siblings in the Bridgerton family. Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton, the second son of the royal family. The third son of the Bridgerton family is Colin Bridgerton. Luke Newton plays the role, whereas Claudia Jessie plays the role of Eloise Bridgerton. She is the second daughter and the fifth child of the Bridgerton family.
Florence Hunt is the youngest child, and the character’s name is Hyacinth Bridgerton. Nicola Coughlan is playing the role of Penelope Featherington, Eloise’s close friend and the youngest daughter of the Featherington family. Simone Ashley is playing the role of Kate Sharma, the love interest of Anthony Bridgerton. Adjoa Andoh will appear as Lady Agatha Danbury. Lastly, Queen Charlotte is Golda Rosheuvel.
Who is not included in Bridgerton Season 3 cast?
Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Basset (née Bridgerton), will not return in season 3. She confirmed this news in an interview while attending the Sundance Film Festival. She mentioned that her character might not show up in season 3, so she will just watch the series as a viewer. Also, she mentioned that in season 4, her character might come up, and she will play that role, but for now, she isn’t there in the series. However, Netflix is yet to make an announcement regarding the news. Fans didn’t want this news to be true as they want their favorite character in the series.
Another disappointment is that Ruby Stokes, who plays the role of Francesca Bridgerto, the sixth Bridgerton child and third daughter, will not appear in Bridgerton Season 3. The reason is that she already signed for another Netflix series that is Lockwood & Co. So, for that role, she quit her role as Francesca. She was the face of Francesca’s character for the past two seasons. However, the character is included in the series, so the new face for the role is Hannah Dodd (younger Sienna Miller in Anatomy Of A Scandal). All other characters in the series are the same as in previous seasons which is good news.
Bridgerton Season 3 filming updates
On January 20, 2022, an announcement video was shared by Nicola Coughlan on her Instagram account where she and her co-stars were on the set of Bridgerton Season 3. Also, they were showing two fingers and then flicking up as three figures.
