With Ruzek being shot in the intense final episode of Chicago P.D. season 10, fans are left with bated breaths, wondering what could possibly happen in the eleventh season. Will he be able to fight death? If not, what would happen as a consequence? Such burning questions can only be answered by season 11.

Seldom do a majority of broadcast entertainment channels continue to gain traction after four to five seasons. With Chicago P.D. completing its 10th run on NBC, it’s safe to say that this procedural drama has surpassed the viewers’ expectations and continues to serve more thrill, intrigue, and drama every episode. Under such circumstances, why would NBC not renew the show for another season?

Shows like Chicago P.D. have been going on for a decade now, and hopefully, we believe that they will continue to do so for another decade.

Hailing from the prolific television producer Dick Wolf’s production company, the entire One Chicago family has been renewed for yet another year, giving us one more year of pure procedural drama to relish. These shows include Chicago PD along with Chicago Med and Chicago Fire and its sister universe to Wolf’s Law & Order franchise.

Since we know that there will be a Chicago P.D. season 11, here’s everything we know so far about the same.

When was Chicago P.D. officially renewed for season 11?

On April 10, NBC announced the renewal of Chicago P.D. for season 11, along with the rest of Dick Wolf’s series, including One Chicago – Chicago Med and Chicago Fire– and the Law & Order franchise: Law & Order, Law &Order: SVU, and Law &Order: Organized Crime.

Wolf said in a statement:

“I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC. All six shows being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers and writers. I’d also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.”

The president of scripted programming at NBCUniversal and Streaming, Lisa Katz, said in a statement, “We understand the emotional connection our audience has with these characters, and we can’t wait to bring more of their stories to the forefront next season. A huge thank you to Dick and his amazing team, who are the masters of producing incredibly compelling television week after week.”

When can we expect Chicago P.D. Season 11 to premiere on NBC?

Unfortunately, the network has not disclosed the premiere date of season 11 of its procedural drama as of yet. If we skim through the release schedules of the previous seasons, we can expect the show to make a return in autumn/fall. However, the schedule can be disrupted owing to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, which have been going on for 100 days now.

Since there are no signs of movement or negotiation just yet, it’s going to create a dent in the popularity of a lot of shows, especially the scripted programs, and will have to bear the brunt of it.

Consequently, it seems that the fall schedule of Chicago P.D. Season 11 has been rescheduled, and it is expected to premiere in 2024. Be that as it might, if no fair deal is reached between the WGA and AMPTP, a 2024 premiere date also seems dicey.

To make matters worse, it isn’t just Chicago P.D., but NBC has also delayed six other shows, which include Chicago Med and Chicago Fire. Eight seasons of Chicago P.D. had at least 20 episodes; it is speculated that the 11th might have half of it and that it might even conclude on the mid-season break.

What can we expect to happen in Chicago P.D. Season 11?

At the time of writing this article, no official word or synopsis has been released revealing the major plot tangents explored in season 11. However, based on the happenings of season 10, we expect at least one plot event to be underscored that was left untouched in the previous season: Jay Halstead’s departure from Chicago in the wake of Jesse Lee Soffer’s decision to exit the show. Given Tracy Spiridakos’ admission of the impact of Soffer’s absence in the show, it’s indubitably not going to be a no-brainer for the cast members and writers on how to deal with the ramifications.

Speaking to Variety, Spirikados said, “We’re still in the change. She finds out that he’s extended his stay and has that breakdown moment of having this hope and then all of a sudden, that’s gone. It’s the first time we see her break down since he’s left, since their goodbye. I think there’s going to be some changes for her over the next little while.”

Season 11 will also plausibly model around the rekindled romance between Adam (Patrick John Flueger) and Kim (Marina Squerciati) in the wake of their decision to consciously co-parent platonically.

Turning his attention towards fans’ reactions over the highly anticipated reunion of the couple, Flueger told NBC Insider, “If Instagram comments are any indication, most of the fans are like, ‘Just leave them alone, leave them alone.’ So I think we’ve got enough opportunities for drama on our show that maybe you’ll actually be able to see two people just kind of be happy together.

“[Marina and I have] definitely both told the writers – and, you know, we can tell them anything we want, but it doesn’t mean they’re going to listen – that if they break us up again, like, please let’s not try this again because it’s too much. It’s too much.”
