Demon Slayer Season 4 is not coming to Netflix in August 2023

With the release of the third season in May 2023, Demon Slayer has left the fans twiddling their thumbs for its upcoming season. It seems that these fans would have to continue doing it for a while.

Demon Slayer is a Japanese anime based on the titular manga series by Koyoharu Gotōge. Ever since it premiered on Netflix, it has been blessed with exponential fame and popularity. The data suggests that within five years of the series’ debut in February 2016, it generated over $8.75 billion in sales revenue, becoming one of the highest-grossing media franchises in history.

According to What’s on Netflix:

“Demon Slayer’s popularity has exploded thanks to some truly fantastic animation by the talented artists at Ufotable. The movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, broke Studio Ghibli’s Japan box office record by becoming the highest-grossing movie in the nation’s history.”

An official teaser trailer of Demon Slayer season 4 was released recently by Studio Ufotable, featuring character images for the Hashira Training narrative with Giyu Tomioka, Shinobu Kocho, Gyomei Himejima, Sanemi Shinazugawa, and Iguro Obanai individually before they were showcased as a group, which is touted as the Hashira Training Arc. That being said, expect Demon Slayer season 4 foregrounding these characters.

Demon Slayer season 2, as all the ardent fans of the anime must be aware, underscored the Mugen Train arc, constituting a total of seven episodes that arrived on Netflix on January 21st, 2023. As a matter of fact, the arrival was observed just under fourteen months after the season one finale episode was broadcast in Japan on November 28th, 2021.

As per the sources, the Entertainment District Arc, foregrounded in season 3, followed suit with the finale aired in Japan on February 13th, 2022. It was available for streaming on Netflix on May 1st, 2022.

The Entertainment District Arc has covered the same number of chapters of the manga, that is, 27, which were spread across 11 episodes each. This leads one to assume whether the upcoming tangent will cover the same number of episodes.

Additionally, the final episode of The Swordsmith Village Arc was recently aired in Japan and simultaneously broadcast on Crunchyroll on June 18th, 2023. Based upon the arcs of the previous seasons that were spread across 11 episodes, we can expect Demon Slayer season 4 to arrive on Netflix sometime between August 2024 and October 2024.

For those unversed, the fourth season of Demon Slayer will underscore the Swordsmith Village Arc. The official synopsis of the same reads:

“Tanjiro goes to see the Stone Hashira, Himejima, who intends to prepare him for the battles to come. The training to become a Hashira—a high-ranking member of the Demon Slayer Corps—is intense and demanding. Earning Himejima’s approval seems impossible, but Tanjiro won’t give up! Meanwhile, the demon lord Muzan continues to search for the location of Nezuko and Ubuyashiki.”
