Recently, actress Alexandra Breckenridge shared a sad update with her fans on Instagram. The actress confirmed that the sixth season of this Netflix series has been put on hold owing to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Expressing her frustration at the situation, the actress said that it felt “weird” to sit at her home in Atlanta, Georgia, when she had prepared to be in Vancouver this time. She added, “I’m always homesick when I’m there but now my body feels like it’s supposed to be in Vancouver so it’s very bizarre.”
So, the filming for Season 6 of Virgin River has officially been put on hold due to the industry-wide strikes, and it might be a while before we get any updates on the same.
Virgin River Season 6 Predicted Release Date: When Can We Expect Its Arrival?
Unfortunately, it is too soon to speculate on the release dates for Virgin River Season 6 since Season 5 will be coming out next month. However, let us take a look at the current developments around Season 6. Ever since the announcement for a series renewal came out in May, the Writer’s Guild of America broke out in protest over unfair practices of the production houses and inferior protection of rights for the writers.
This protest was joined in by the actors guild called SAG AFTRA in July. So, it is safe to say that scriptwriters and actors are currently unavailable to continue to work on their series until and unless their agreements are met by the production houses. It seems like a fair demand since they are the very source of our entertainment, and they deserve basic artistic rights and fair compensation in order for them to work well.
It was only today, that the strike officially ended and the agreements were made. So, seems like the Virgin River fans need to wait a while longer than expected since there’s still a long way to go for things to return back to complete normalcy. Amidst a number of scripted series that have halted productions or delayed their schedules, Virgin River Season 6 is one of them.
Hence, there is no script as of writing this and it is obvious that filming for Season 6 has also not commenced. However, it is important to know that since the negotiation is met, Virgin River Season 6 filming might commence by the end of 2023. Judging by the time taken for filming and post-production, our prediction suggests a late fall release in 2024.
A Henderson Tease for Season 6 was rectified by himself when he posted a photo of him by the beach wearing his cap with the Instagram caption:
“Waiting on set finding sunbeams shooting season 5… sorry I originally wrote season 6 which was a silly mistake because we haven’t made season 6.”
Anyway, with that being said, it is clear that the filming for Season 6 has not commenced yet and is expected to start by the end of 2023, provided the current strike simmers down within the next month or two.

Controversy surrounding Lexa Doig
From a broader perspective, it seems that her character sang its swan song in Season 5 when she left the town behind. However, a massive cliffhanger from Season 5 made us ponder over her possible return again for the next Season. You see, after the incessant forest fire that shook Virgin River to its core, altering the mental and physical health of its dwellers, a body surfaced from the chars.
It was the body of Wes, Paige’s ex-husband, whom she killed and whose body Preacher helped put away. It seems like her past resurfaced, which means we could be looking at her potential return in Season 6. *fingers crossed*
Virgin River Season 6: What Will Season 6 Pick Up From The Plots Of Season 5
The Season 4 finale left us on the cusp of a massive cliffhanger, which we waited for over a year for Season 5 to answer. So, did Season 5 answer our questions? It did, but it left us with more cliffhangers for Season 6 to explore.
Does Charmaine And Her Babies’ Father Reunite?
Incidentally, Charmaine remains pregnant throughout the entirety of Season 5, making us skeptical of the revelation of the father of the buns cooking in her oven. We learned from the Season 4 finale that Jack (her ex) was actually not the father. So we were intrigued as to who it was. Charmaine’s problematic situation with the men in her life defined her character throughout the four Seasons of Virgin River, and Season 5 was no different. From her husband Todd to emotionally unavailable Jack, Charmaine never cracked the perfect relationship jackpot.
Towards the end of Season 5, we finally get to know that Calvin(Virgin River’s No. 1 Criminal) was the actual father of the twins. Calvin was presumed dead due to a miscalculated boat explosion, but the Season 5 finale revealed that he was alive after all and was ready to be involved with his unborn twins.
Will Charmaine allow Calvin to enter her life and be a father to her twins? Will he cause more trouble for Virgin River? Only Season 6 can tell.
Will Mel and Jack Adopt?
An engaged and pregnant Mel is jolly from the beginning of Season 5 with her fiance and baby daddy, Jack, and both of them are settled to begin normal family life. Mid-season, something happens to Mel and her world is overturned. She loses the baby after a camping trip with Jack, resulting in her second miscarriage, the first being her deceased husband’s baby before she met Jack.
However, by the end of the Season, the couple decides to pick the pieces of their hearts together, buy farmland that belonged to Lily, and start a settled life together, even adopt if need be. This also came after the entire town was grieving over the aftermath of the grave forest fire that set the Virgin River ablaze.
Will their attempt at a settled, secluded life be interrupted by yet another grave tragedy? Or will Mel and Jack get their well-deserved fairy-tale ending? Only Season 6 can answer these questions for us.
Will Denny Stay Back For His Unborn Baby?
For a series with the name ‘Virgin’ in the title, there sure is an unexpected array of pregnancies. New to the list is V-town’s new It couple, Lizzie and Denny. But it’s not all unicorns and cotton candy. Lizzie and Denny finally got together in Season 5 despite Denny’s protests because of his deteriorating condition linked to Huntington’s disease, a nervous system disorder. However, towards the end of Season 5, at the carnival, just as Denny says that he has finally decided to leave Virgin River to attend med school, Lizzie reveals her pregnancy. This cliffhanger was the worst of them all because we have no clue what can happen next. We can only hope Denny reverses this fatal disease, stays back, and helps Lizzie with their baby. Otherwise, expect the heartbreak of the century in Season 6!
Season 6 will probably delve into these continuing plots and much like its earlier Seasons, we may be facing another huge cliffhanger at the end of Season 12 of the Holiday Special episodes released on 30th November, 2023 only on Netflix! Other than this, speaking of plots that Season 6 can explore, we have an important and exciting update from the director of Virgin River itself.
Virgin River Season 6 Plot: Director Reveals An Exciting Update
“We are all in the endgame now.”
By that, we mean the waiting game, which includes us viewers, the cast, the crew, and the entire team of Virgin River productions as we wait for the strike situation to dissipate, negotiations of the WGA and SAG AFTRA to be met, so that the production houses can begin creating and releasing streamlined content. Since the writing for Virgin River Season 6 has not begun yet, and in fact will not begin until the strike simmers, the director has placed an intriguing proposition to the ardent fanbase of Virgin River.
Speaking in a new interview with Today.com, here is what director Martin Wood had to say on the subject:
“It will be very interesting now because generally, in ‘Virgin River,’ we don’t have the opportunity to see (fan reaction before writing the season). We almost are always in the blind. So Season Six will be the first season where they have the opportunity (to review viewer reaction) before they start production.”
Could viewer criticism and plot determination lead to a change in the plot and tip it in our direction? We are not fully aware. However, we are certain that if a unanimously voted plot resurrects from the comment section, the directors will surely incorporate it. So get typing, and play a role in determining the plot of the new season!
Virgin River Season 6: Is there an official trailer?
We do not possess an official trailer for Season 6 yet since the trailer for Season 5 has not been released yet. However, you will be delighted to know that trailers are usually released a month before the series broadcast, so you can expect an official trailer for Season 5 to be released by this month itself!
As for Season 6, it will take quite a while to get our hands on its official trailer since the filming process for the same has not commenced yet. Meanwhile, you can take a look at the official trailer for Virgin River Season 5 Part 1, which was released earlier:
