“Vile, riveting, precariously dark, twisted fates… Fargo: The Fifth Installment is back for another chapter.”
Oranges scattered across the floor. Satchel crouching beside his father, Loy, who is breathing his last. His shirt is soaked in his blood as he looks at his son, mere moments after he was brutally stabbed on his front porch.
Fargo Season 4 left us feeling heartbroken and surprised at the heinous twists of fate that were a staple throughout the season. The final post-credit scene (years after his father’s untimely death) cut’s to a montage where we recognize a now older Satchel, who changed his name to Mike Miller, seated on the back seat of a car, casually riding on the road. We immediately recognize the man from Season Two, who was actually Satchel, all grown up. The season ends on this note, and we were left in the dark for at least a year with no announcements on whether a Fargo Season 5 is on the books.
Our hopes were elevated when the official FX Networks handle announced a fifth installment to the show on Feb 17th, 2022. Thereafter, the FX network released an update regarding the onslaught of filming for season 5 on 29th March 2023. This was good news for all the fans who were wondering, “What happened to Fargo Season 5?”
If you are waiting for an update regarding the progress of the show post-March 2023, you may be wondering about the consequences the recent Writer’s strike has brought to the table and how it might affect the proposed release of the fifth season this year. You have come to the right place because we have all the updates regarding the release date, filming updates, and what Fargo Season 5 plot may showcase. Continue reading to find out more.
Fargo Season 5: Release Date
The earlier seasons of Fargo submerged us into the intricately woven details of the missing pieces of American History that most of us are unaware of. In a recent conversation with Variety, showrunner Noah Hawley spoke of the trajectory he wanted the show to rely on, saying,
“My feeling is we’re creating mythology,” Hawley states. “You know? We’re creating American myths. And in order to do that, you have to make things mythic.”
With that being said, here is the official announcement for Fargo Season 5 renewal status back in February 2022.

Now, we know the question that has dominated your mind after reading this. ‘Will the WGA, SAG-AFTRA strike cause delay in the release of Fargo Season 5 given its stated release by 2023?’
We hate to be the bearer of disheartening news, but it looks like our beloved crime action series won’t reach us in 2023. This update is as of July 2023, where the WGA protests were mingled in with the SAG-AFTRA artist union strike making it a double strike situation. We are currently stepping into the third month of the strike that caused major production houses to halt production and writers to stop completing scripts. There are no rumors surrounding a negotiation to put an end to this situation, resulting in more uncertainty and delay to our favorite series.
Coming back to Fargo Season 5, we predict an early 2024 release date. This is because the production house has already begun its filming process (hence we got to have the first looked mentioned above), plus the estimated time period for post-production, we can expect an early 2024 release.

Fargo Season 5: Expected Plot
Fargo Season 4 ended on a somber yet culminating note. This has got us crime aficionados scratching our brains about what Season 5 will bring to the table.
We have something in store for you.
The official synopsis (courtesy of the Newsletter) reads,
“Fargo has traveled through decades, cities and families, and the fifth installment will be no different: Set in 2019, when is a kidnapping, not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?”
From this vague synopsis, the exact developments of Season 5 are not crystal clear. However, in a conversation with Hollywood Reporter, Hawley has given us a little sneak peek at what is to come,
“It’s particularly comedic this year. It’s always a balance between how dramatic versus comedic it is, and this is the more comedic end of the spectrum. I really love it.”
Well, it is evident that we will move away from more somber tones and experience some humor for a change.
In addition to this, Fargo Season 5 will be set in the upper Midwest, and Dot, whose role is reprised by Temple, will be a “housewife with a secret,” according to Hawley.
Looks like we have a lot to look forward to this season, and honestly, it is getting tiring to wait. Hence, you can rewatch Fargo Seasons 1-4 to jog your memory and get you in the mood for Season 5.
Fargo Season 5: Where to Watch
Since filming for the all-new season 5 of Fargo is on with no official announcements on its release date, we know that when it releases, it will air on the FX channel on Tuesdays at 10 pm (according to the official Twitter handle of FX channel). Additionally, it is set to be a 10-episode season covering new and exciting storylines and riveting character displays.
In the meantime, we advise you to catch up on the earlier seasons on the following platforms:
- If you reside in the US, you can catch the earlier seasons on the official FX website.
- If you reside in the UK, you will have to tune in on the waitlist since the earlier episodes might appear on Channel 4.

Fargo Season 5: Official Trailer
Since filming for Fargo Season 5 is in the process, an official trailer for the same is still under wraps. You can expect a teaser and a trailer release 1-2 months prior to the series being aired (which we estimate to be in early 2024).
Meanwhile, check out this promo from Season 4, Episode 9:
Fargo Season 6: Will It Happen?
As of now, there are no updates on whether the franchise will continue ahead with a sixth installment. We can only learn of this once Fargo Season 5 releases and the network speculates the audience response.
However, in conversation with Entertainment, when asked about a possible 6th installment to Fargo, Hawley replied,
“I have the germination of an idea, but there’s a lot of work that has to be done to make sure it’s worthy. Fargo has never really been a story where “this happens, then this happens, then this happens. There’s a lot more that goes into it, and the bar is high, and I certainly have no desire to be the last guy at the dance going, Oh, it’s still good.”
From this, it is clear that the future of Fargo Season 6 lies with the truth on whether the show remains relevant and well-received by the audience after the release of Season 5.
With that being said, we have established that Fargo Season 5 may arrive in early 2024, and the filming for the same has also begun. We will brim you with updates as soon as we get early intel on the same. Turn on the notifications to Web News Observer so you never miss an update.
