Is Gaslit getting another season? Continue reading to find out more about Gaslit Season 2.
Gaslit is a thrilling limited series that not only honors Martha Mitchell’s impoverished legacy but also places her tragedy in the perspective of greater sociocultural forces at the time. The series is set during the Watergate scandal and focuses on a number of untold stories, including those of Richard Nixon’s subordinates, mad zealots, and whistleblowers who would eventually bring the entire operation down.
As the series draws to a close with the final episode scheduled to air this weekend, many viewers are asking themselves the same question as we are. Is the show getting a second season or not? If you’re curious about what’s next for this outstanding miniseries. We’ve got you covered with all the information you’ll need after watching the final episode of Gaslit, whether the series would be renewed for more seasons to expand further on this story. Here’s all we know about Gaslit Season 2 so far.
Is Gaslit renewed for Season 2?
The series is all set to premiere its final episode, Final Days, on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at approximately 8 p.m. (ET) / 7 p.m. (CT) on Starz. The first question which prompts in the mind of the viewers is whether the series will be getting another season or not, as many major TV series or movies are created with fresh themes for the digital streaming platform, with two or more seasons already approved by the network.
Because of the growing demand from customers who have loved the content provided across genres of many newly established streaming platforms with reasonable subscription options, the question is valid for viewers to assume if this series will continue.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Gaslit, because the show is based on historical events, it’s likely that the plot will wrap up with the season finale. As a result, the series will not be renewed for a second season as the plotline of the show is limited to the event and cannot be expanded into something fictitious that does not adhere to the exact idea of the source material.
The series has already covered the major plotlines for the Watergate scandal along with the downfall of America’s 37th president. This was the basic premise of the series and the seven episodes have covered the majority of them as of June 11, 2022.
Hence, it seems unlikely that the series has much left to offer for more episodes. The finale episode is set to conclude the storyline which the viewers have been waiting for such a long time.
However, the show’s chances of being revived as an anthology series with subsequent seasons concentrating on fresh stories are possible, but given the ratings for the series, it seems unlikely the network will wait to go further with any new adaptations for expansion of this political thriller TV series and invest more resources.
What is the series about?
According to the official description released by Starz network, the premise of the series states that Gaslit is a modern take on Watergate that focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of the scandal – from Nixon’s bumbling and opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down.
The story will center on Martha Mitchell, played by Julia Roberts. A big personality with an even bigger mouth. Martha is a celebrity Arkansan socialite and wife to Nixon’s loyal Attorney General, John Mitchell, played by Sean Penn. Despite her party affiliation, she’s the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in Watergate, causing both the Presidency and her personal life to unravel.
What has the response been for Gaslit so far?
Gaslit’s first season has a 0.01 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 220,000 viewers in live+same-day ratings. These figures are a good estimate of how well a show is doing, particularly when compared to others on the same network.
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 88% of 42 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.40/10. I am singularly obsessed with Shea Wigham's portrayal of G. Gordon Liddy in #GaslitSTARZ it is a downright operatic performance, simultaneously refined, crude, extremely funny and terrifying. He is absolutely magnetic.
