Gentleman Jack Season 2 has returned, and Anne Lister’s life is becoming increasingly difficult.

Gentleman Jack Season 2 was confirmed by the BBC in May 2019, following the first season’s debut to 5.1 million viewers in the UK, and the time has finally come when Season 2 is available on digital streaming services.

Sally Wainwright created the historical drama television series Gentleman Jack. Suranne Jones plays landowner and industrialist Anne Lister in the film, which is set in 1832 in Yorkshire. The show is based on Lister’s diaries, which include over four million words and is mostly written in secret code, recording a lifetime of lesbian encounters.

The life of LGBTQ+ trailblazer, avid learner, and cryptic diarist Anne Lister is dramatized. Gentleman Jack’s journey on BBC One and HBO is a seminal work.

Suranne Jones played real-life lesbian pioneer Anne Lister, who pushed the boundaries of acceptable behavior in Georgian Yorkshire, resisted the position given to her by societal structure, and lived her truth, as we’d say now.

There’s no end of stories.”

Gentleman Jack Season 2 Trailer

The BBC and HBO have released a trailer for Gentleman Jack Season 2.

In the trailer, it is seen that Suranne Jones’ Anne Lister and Sophie Rundle’s Ann Walker will set up home together at Shibden Hall as wife and wife in Sally Wainwright’s period drama, Joanna Scanlan will join the cast as Isabella Tib’ Norcliffe, Anne Lister’s wild former lover.

Anne Lister’s business spirit frightens the townspeople as much as her extraordinary love life. With Halifax on the verge of upheaval, her refusal to keep a low profile becomes controversial and risky.

Gentleman Jack Season 2 Plot

Anne Lister and Ann Walker are married at the end of the first eight-part series. As a result, the new series will follow the pair as they live in Shibden Hall together.

However, because the story is set in 1830s Yorkshire, they are unlikely to be able to live a happy married life together as their relationship continues to be a source of contention.

Sally Wainwright, a writer, promised that the couple had lots of “big, bold stories” to tell. The new season is produced by Lookout Point for HBO and BBC One with executive producers Sally Wainwright, Suranne Jones, Faith Penhale, Will Johnston, and Ben Irving; producers Phil Collinson and Stella Merz; directors Edward Hall, Amanda Brotchie, and Fergus O’Brien.

The BBC tease: “Yorkshire, 1834. All eyes are on Anne Lister and Ann Walker as they set up home together at Shibden Hall as wife and wife, determined to combine their estates and become a power couple. Anne Lister’s entrepreneurial spirit frightens the locals as much as her unconventional love life and, with Halifax on the brink of revolution, her refusal to keep a low profile becomes provocative and dangerous.”
