Why did CBS renew Ghosts for Season 2?
According to Deadline, Ghosts, based on the U.K. format, is unlike anything else on CBS: a quirky, single-camera adult comedy. But it defied expectations, delivering the biggest comedy debut this season and exhibiting classic signs of a broadcast comedy hit we hadn’t seen in a while, with its viewership building consistently throughout the season as more people discover it.
The fastest-growing new show this season, Ghosts is averaging 8.06 million viewers (most current Nielsen ratings) and improving the Thursday 9 p.m. time period by 15% versus Mom during the same weeks. Ghosts‘ Jan. 13 episode posted a series-best seven-day audience, adding 2.75 million viewers (9.23M from 6.48M). Season to date, Ghosts is also the No. 1 comedy series on Paramount+.
“We’re thrilled to bring back television’s four most-watched comedies for next season, and I’m proud of the incredible team that maintains CBS’ position as the clear leader in comedy,” said Kelly Kahl, President of CBS Entertainment. “Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, together with a breakout cast and exceptional writers, have done a superb job of adapting Ghosts for the U.S. and absolutely making it their own. This smart and charming show is delivering new creative highs, not to mention scaring up new audience highs, every week.”

Ghosts Season 2 Expected Plot
The upcoming season is expected to pick up from the finale episode of the first season, Farnsby & B, released on April 21, 2022. The episode was directed by Cortney Carrillo, and Sanford Bookstaver, and written by Joe Port & Joe Wiseman. It is estimated that the finale was viewed by 6.25 million US viewers.
The official synopsis of the episode states, “As Sam and Jay await the arrival of their first official bed-and-breakfast guests, they face obstacles triggered by a Norse curse placed upon them by Thorfinn; Isaac takes a huge, centuries-in-the-making step in his personal life.”
*Spoilers Ahead*
In the episode the viewers got to see that, The Farnsbys offer to buy Sam and Jay’s bed and breakfast, but when they decline, they open a competing B&B in an effort to put the younger couple out of business. In order to prevent a B&B from ever opening, Thorfinn says he put a Norse curse on the mansion. He claims that the curse, which may or may not have been real, is to blame for all of the bad things that have happened this season, including Sam’s injury that gave her the power to see ghosts.
Sam almost breaks the purported curse by combining cinnamon, sugar, and boiling water, but she chooses against it since she does not want to risk losing her power. She advises Jay to keep pushing forward to launch their company regardless of the challenges they face. When Jenkins, a subordinate, tells Isaac that Nigel has entered the hereafter, Isaac is devastated since he had intended to tell Nigel that he liked him.
The Revolutionary-era ghosts explain their bewilderment and acknowledge that they like each other when Nigel approaches Isaac later on, thinking he was having an affair with Thorfinn. The Arondekars maintain their business after defeating the Farnsbys by forfeit; but, as they greet their first visitors, they slip and fall through a weak floor into the basement.
So, it is expected that this already established premise will lead to the pilot episode of Ghosts Season 2. It’s also rumored to pick up any potential cliffhangers and subplots in the first episode of the following season and dive right into this world with more experiments, giving fans something new to look at instead of the same old themes. As a result, enticing fans to stream the series is vital for the network to generate the best possible content and plot while placing these beloved characters first.
