Grey’s Anatomy Season 19: When will the finale episode air?
The two-hour Season 19 finale episode, simply titled “Happily Ever After?” is now confirmed to air later this month on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the same scheduled time slot of 9/8c on ABC and later exclusively on Hulu. The episode is directed by Debbie Allen and written by Krista Vernoff. The official synopsis of the episode hasn’t been released yet, but showrunner Krista Vernoff stated, “I love putting a viewer through a good wringer,” according to the report by TVLine.
“I think the tone has really been a return to form, where there’s high drama, there’s high emotion, and there’s also a lot of funny, a lot of humor, a lot of heart. “It’s a magical combination that is a joy to write,” she added, “and a joy, I see, for these actors to play. I’m glad the fans are going on the ride.” For the fans to want to know what happens next in the season we have highlighted a major comment by co-director Kevin McKidd which hints that the direction the season finale is going.
As per TVLine, co-director Kevin McKidd has clearly stated, “It’s a two-hour finale this year, and I’m directing the first hour of that. It’s going to be a big one.” McKidd, who portrays Owen Hunt in the series, also touched on the return of former series star Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey in the finale “The place isn’t the same without her… it’s celebratory. It’s also quite shocking,” McKidd said. Further adding, “There are going to be some things in it that people are going to be kind of surprised and shocked at.”
Will Season 19 be the last season of Grey’s Anatomy?
The medical drama isn’t going anywhere as on March 24, 2023, ABC renewed the series for a twentieth season, which is not surprising at all as the last season of the show received mostly favorable reviews from critics and viewers around the globe. The nineteenth season is tied for the fifth-highest drama on ABC this season among adults 18-49 and continues to place as the network’s No. 1 entertainment series in that demographic. After 35 days of delayed watching on linear and digital platforms.
Grey’s Anatomy averages 10.7 million total viewers, making it ABC’s top entertainment series for multiplatform delayed viewing. Along with the pickup, ABC also verified a report from Deadline that Meg Marinis will direct Season 20. She takes over for Krista Vernoff, the longtime showrunner of Grey’s Anatomy, who is leaving both shows at the conclusion of this season. The official premiere date has yet to be acknowledged, but the potential release date of Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 is confirmed to be for the 2023–25 broadcast season.
The season will likely premiere in the fall of 2023, and it is expected to premiere every Thursday. In order to maintain consistency, a similar year gap is possible. In addition to this, the premiere of the episodes on the streaming platform can be at the same time slot of 9/8c, just like other original series. We would like to highlight that this is just speculation! Any statement about the show’s official release date and time schedule is still subject to network verification.
Until then, fans should keep a close eye on the social media handles of the show to learn about any new updates.
