Young Sheldon Season 7 Cancelled?
Bazinga!
Do you think Sheldon Cooper would leave you with an unfinished story? Do you forget he has the ultimate condition of OCD?
When will our “Mighty Little Man (the title of the introductory song)” and the rest of the Cooper Clan join us on screen for its supposed final season? Are there any recent release date rumors?
Can’t wait for the Cooper gang from East Texas to return soon for their seventh installment? Neither can we! Since the multi-seasonal renewal of Young Sheldon in March 2021, we cannot wait for our brilliant yet humourous young scientist to grace our screens.
Young Sheldon had the viewers glued to their screens since its inception in 2017, while its parent series, The Big Bang Theory, was still running its course and was on its 10th Season. A presumable reason behind the early unparalleled success of Young Sheldon can be attributed to The Big Bang Theory, an epitome of a humorous yet moving sitcom that took the world by storm. Our keen interest in the lives of a group of five scientists plus Penny, with Sheldon Cooper being the primary focus, drove us into the realms of Young Sheldon.
It quite literally features a younger Sheldon, his peculiar yet quirky habits as he came of age with a background setting of Texas with none other than his family! Viewers of The Big Bang Theory quickly got attached to this prequel series because most of the references that flowed throughout the seasons always ‘rang a bell,’ as the references were picked up from the parent series.
Relishing the six-season run on the air, Young Sheldon is touted as TV’s #1 comedy, garnering heaps of critical acclaim with high ratings, especially as things become even more intricate with Sheldon and the rest of his family. Premiered on CBS in 2017, the sitcom is modeled around the eponymous character who grew up in a small hometown in Texas in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.
We can proudly state that Young Sheldon was successful in shouldering the huge fan base that was still mourning the end of The Big Bang theory and was filled with high expectations from the prequel series. After all, it is based on Sheldon Cooper!
Nevertheless, fans have been clacking their keyboards throughout the months to surf out any information on the internet regarding recent developments surrounding Young Sheldon. If you are an ardent Sheldon Cooper stan and the same questions have been looming over your head, you have come to the right place. We at Web News Observer have gathered recent intel on the development of Young Sheldon 7 and how CBS is planning to please their viewers with Young Sheldon on their screens THIS FALL! Continue Reading to find out.
Young Sheldon Season 7 Status: Is It Cancelled?
On the contrary, you will be glad to know that CBS WILL bring Young Sheldon on their screens this fall, but not exactly the Season 7. The network has finally confirmed that they will not be bringing Young Sheldon Season 7 in the fall of 2023 but will instead play re-runs of the previous seasons on the CBS network every Thursday at 8 p.m.
Here are the updates regarding the same.
Young Sheldon Season 7 was confirmed for a fall 2023 release as stated in CBS’ earlier fall lineup, where the show was placed on the Thursday slot at 8 p.m.
May 2023 witnessed the onslaught of the gravest writer’s protest in the form of the WGA union. Amidst the protest, several competing networks updated their fall broadcast schedules in anticipation of the dissipation of the strikes within the next month.
However, in July, the actors union SAG-AFTRA also joined in the protest for their wage rights and better protection against the hindsight of Artificial Intelligence. The last time such a large-scale strike sent Hollywood productions into an indefinite hiatus was 63 whole years ago! We are currently in the third month of this double-strike situation, and there are no hopes for any reconciliation through negotiations.
In a recent meeting held for the first time in more than three months, the Writers Guild and the AMPTP on Friday failed to reach an agreement to resume contract negotiations. Their inability to agree on terms for returning to the bargaining table comes after their much-anticipated meeting to discuss a possible resumption of talks.
“As of now, there is no agreement on these items, because the AMPTP said they needed to consult with their member studios before moving forward,” the union said in a statement last Friday.
The situation for a fall 2023 release seems bleak. However, we can make a calculated guess on an expected date for the release of Young Sheldon Season 7, taking into account the lingering strike situation. In a situation where negotiations are met within the next two months or so, we can expect production to begin by the end of this year and result in a mid-2024 release.
Unfortunately, this would mean a shortened season, in a bout to hastily complete filming within a given time. However, if the network decides to give us a stellar final season as they did in The Big Bang Theory, it is better to expect a 2024 fall release instead. Honestly, we prefer the latter, given that we would want to bid adieu to the Coopers in a proper way and not in a rushed manner!
So, affirmatively, Season 7 production is currently on a hiatus. Moreover, the cast of Young Sheldon are members of the SAG AFTRA, so they are busy picketing for their rights. Lance Barber, Zoe Perry, and Raegan Revord joined the writers on the picket line, while Iain Armitage and Wallace Shawn recently followed in their footsteps. With no actors to shoot the scenes and this being the third month of the double strike, we are certain that the original plan of CBS for a fall 2023 release has successfully been quashed until further notice.
Young Sheldon Season 7 Release Date: How Will CBS Broadcast The Series?
A trend with the most competitive networks like CBS has come up where they revised their fall lineup schedules and released them featuring reruns of the original CBS shows instead of the promised new season. This is because, amidst the SAG AFTRA WGA strikes, networks have found it promising and feasible to shift their scripted fall line-up series into 2024 and maintained reruns of the original series on the network, which won’t require new scripts or actors. A wise move if you ask me!
As it has already been hinted at by George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS and Chief Content Officer, who stated during a keynote at Banff moderated by Deadline’s Peter White: “We wanted to build our schedule for when the world goes back to normal.” Further adding, “Once we had done that, once we locked it in, we spent a lot of time focusing on what it was going to look like.” He elaborated that a revised CBS fall scheduling plan is expected to be revealed soon. “First of all, obviously it’s going to be very reality-heavy,” he added.
Well, according to The Hidden Remote, it looks like Young Sheldon did bag a place in the fall schedule of CBS, in the sense that its earlier episode reruns will be shown. While it may not be what you had been hoping for, it is still better than not having Sheldon Cooper on our screens again. CBS noted that Young Sheldon will air every Thursday at the 8 p.m. time slot. Also, it is a great opportunity to catch up to the old seasons of the series in time for its 2024 release.
Yes, you heard that right! Creators indicate that scriptwriting should start by the end of this year in order for the new episodes to air within the first quarter of 2024. We are predicting a more realistic time frame given the volatile situation at hand, like the 2024 fall season. This also follows the history of releases of every season of the series. Seasons 1,2 and 3 aired at the end of September, whereas Seasons 4, and 5 aired in November and October, respectively, but that was due to the pandemic. Season 6 also followed the traditional release at the end of September. So, for Season 7, it is safe to use the phrase inspired by the Green Day band ” Wake Me Up When September Ends!”
However, if the strike ends sooner, we can expect the earlier estimation of a 1st quarter of 2024 release.

Young Sheldon Season 7: Will The Big Bang Theory Cast Make An Appearance?
*Major Spoiler Alert*
Be honest. When Young Sheldon aired, didn’t you immediately click on the series and expect Jim Parsons, yes, but also the remaining O.G. cast of the mother series? We bet you did.
So when we encountered voiceovers of our beloved original cast, we were overjoyed! Kayley Cuoco(Penny) is the ‘pool monster’ in Sheldon’s dream in Season 3, Episode 10, Simon (Howard) in Season 5 states, “All this time, that’s your problem with engineering?, and his beloved wife Mayim (Amy), who has done more than one voiceover. Including the time the couple bickered over naming their son ‘Leonard Cooper’ in the Season 4 opening episode.
But what moved us to tears and reminiscence were the young cameos of the O.G cast of The Big Bang Theory in Young Sheldon Season 2 Episode 22, with the camera diffusing into each one of them as 10-year-olds studying (Leonard, Raj), sleeping (Penny, Bernadette), playing games(Howard), or reading(Amy), with the song “someday we’ll be together” playing in the background! We know you watched those 15 seconds over and over again!
So, we may not exactly see the cast of The Big Bang Theory since Sheldon hadn’t met them while he was young, but we can definitely expect some more voiceovers and young cameos!
Young Sheldon Season 7: Official Trailer
At the moment of writing this, we do not possess an official trailer for Young Sheldon Season 7. This is because the promotional marketing of a series usually begins 1-2 months prior to its release, and since we do not have a definitive release date, we cannot predict when the official trailer for the same will reach us.
In the meantime, you can take a look at the trailer for the Season 6:
Young Sheldon Season 7 Announcement: A Possible Spinoff?
We promised you a surprise announcement at the end, so here it is.

That’s right! The Big Bang Theory fever isn’t over yet, and from the looks of it, Max has amped up the thermometer a little more for the die-hard fans.
Details of this have not been disclosed yet, so we do not know if it is a prequel or a sequel to The Big Bang Theory. What we do know is that it will have the infamous Chuck Lorre there, which has given us two revolutionary series, and that it will stream on HBO Max and Discovery+.
