Magnum P.I. Season 5 Release Date Update: When will it premiere on NBC?
It looks like there is a major change in plans for the 2023–24 fall schedule of NBC due to the ongoing 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which haven’t reached any agreement yet and causing a major shift for the release window of many shows. One of the popular shows that has also been impacted by this is the one and only Magnum P.I. Season 5! If you recall, initially, it was reported that the last ten episodes of the final season would not be making their debut this year, but now the tides have turned, and the network has decided to air the final ten episodes a bit earlier than everyone was expecting.
The season is back on track and ready to premiere the final 10 episodes this NBC’s fall 2023-24 broadcast season!
Yes, you heard it right! We speculate that the reason for such a sudden shift is to fill the void of a lack of scripted shows, which sadly haven’t started filming due to the dual strikes that have put Hollywood on a standstill for the first time in 63 years, and it doesn’t seem to end anytime soon, causing delays in producing various shows on time! Due to this, we are confident in reporting that NBC might have decided to premiere the second part earlier than the previously confirmed release window of midseason/summer 2024, at the same time slot every Sunday at 9:00 PM ET on NBC.
Moreover, the official Twitter handle of the show also confirmed that the episodes will make their comeback on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, on NBC and streaming on Peacock at the same time slot. This is exciting news for the fandom, as they are the few ones who will be getting their favorite show back on time in the same rollout in order to catch up with the final adventure rather than waiting for an entire year! TV Line also reported that shows that were filmed ahead of the dual strikes had been moved up from their original mid-season slot to occupy the empty slots in the fall schedule.
At last, check out the official release date announcement as shared on Twitter with a brand new still of Jay Hernandez as Thomas Magnum and Perdita Weeks as Juliet Higgins, quote, “ohana, are you ready? Magnum P.I. returns Wednesday, October 4 on @nbc and streaming on @peacock.”

Magnum P.I. Season 5 Part 2 Plot: What to expect?
The series is a modern take on the classic series centering on Thomas Magnum, who is a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, becomes a private investigator in Hawaii. A charming troublemaker and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum solve tough cases with his ex-MI6 partner Juliet Higgins, and when he needs backup, he calls on his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors, T.C. and Rick, to bring the heat.
With keys to a Ferrari in one hand, aviator sunglasses in the other, and a few Mai Tais on the way, Thomas Magnum is always on the case. The fifth season saw Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and Higgins (Perdita Weeks) finally make their romance official. Magnum, who was previously known as a lady’s man, changed his womanizing ways, committing himself to Higgins. Now that the cat is out of the bag, what will upcoming episodes hold for the future of Magnum and Higgins’ relationship?
*Spoiler Alert*
In an interview with NBC Insider, showrunner Eric Guggenheim stated, “What’s fun is that these are two very different people. They have similar experiences and similar trauma in their past, and that connects them, but their approach as investigators, they have different approaches. Their personalities are a little different,” he told us. “Magnum is romantic and more of a risk taker and Higgins is very guarded. If you had two characters who are very similar, it would make for a very boring relationship and some very boring scenes. But because these characters are so different that just makes for fantastic chemistry.”
He added, “We’ve really lucked out, where two actors just have amazing chemistry. When you get that, you’re incredibly fortunate. It doesn’t always work out that way on shows, but we’re lucky that from the very first episode, you saw that there was a spark between these two characters. And that the two actors just had some undeniable chemistry.”
Moreover, the second part of the fifth season is expected to continue the plotlines for the final round from the 10th episode, “Charlie Foxtrot,” which was released on April 23, 2023, and viewed by 3.12 million US viewers. The episode is directed by Lisa Robinson and written by David Wolkove. In the episode, viewers saw T.C. lay bleeding out from a gunshot wound. Rick is taken hostage, but not before he is able to get a message to Magnum that the mercenaries who are set on avenging the death of Ahmad Hadid are after all of them.
Magnum gets the message just in time to thwart an attack at Robin’s Nest. Juliette is able to identify the mastermind of the plot as Nadine Amherst, who was once Hadid’s handler before forming a romantic bond with him and then giving birth to their son after Hadid was killed. Magnum engineers a prison escape for one of the mercenaries, knowing the man will lead them to Nadine and Rick. Magnum, Higgins, Gordon, and HPD are able to rescue Rick while taking down Nadine and her cohorts. T.C. wakes up in a hospital alive but unable to feel his legs or feet.
