Originally destined to be cancelled by NBC after streaming its third season on the network, Manifest has surpassed the expectations of the fans so far, especially after Netflix renewed it for a fourth season in the summer of 2021. For those unversed, the pilot episode of Manifest was where the journey of the show took off, featuring the Flight 828 take-off on NBC.

Ranked as the 9th top-rated show on NBC that season, the series was successful in gaining traction with the masses. Eventually, NBC ordered a second and a third season but unfortunately, the viewership plummeted over time.

NBC had to cancel the show after the Manifest season 3 finale since it was not receiving the expected critical acclaim. However, to give the show one last effort, Warner Brothers Television licensed seasons 1-2 to Netflix on June 10th, 2021.

With the arrival of Manifest seasons on Netflix, we all know the fate of the show. It was ranked in Netflix’s top 10s, which meant that the show deserved a second chance. On August 28, 2021 a deal was finalized for a super-sized final season of Manifest.

When it comes to the deal, Netflix made sure that they receive the global rights and that the core cast should come back since a majority of cast contracts had expired during that point.

With that said, Season 4 of Manifest as mentioned previously will be the final season. The show running duties will be handled by Jeff Rake and the show will be executively produced by Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke, Jacqueline Levine, and Len Goldstein.

Part 1 of the Manifest season premiered on Netflix on November 4th, 2022. That being said, episodes 11 through 20 are all set to premiere on the streaming platform in 2023. Here’s a full scoop on the same.

*Spoiler alert*

In the 10th episode of season 4, titled “Inversion Illusion”, we see the Sapphire shatter during the fight, which leads the US Government to initiate an Emergency Order to detain 828 passengers. Not only that, but Dr Gupta is leading a Registry team that breaks into Vance’s lab. At the same time, Zeke sacrifices his life to save Cal from leukemia. Towards the end, we see Angelina escaping with a piece of the Omega Sapphire stuck in her hand. In the end, we can infer that Cal is the only savior of humanity whereas Angelina has turned out to be the phoenix from the ashes.

In a conversation with EW, Jeff Rake, the showrunner said that the “second half (of season 4) is much more about the community of 828 passengers…Without giving away too much, we’ll be focused every episode on that larger community throughout the second block all the way up to the Death Date. It used to be 191 passengers. We’ve lost a few along the way. Now, will Ben and Michaela and Cal and Olive be at the center of that? They will be. We’ve talked about Ben and Michaela being the co-captains of the lifeboat of these passengers, and this final block will allow us to showcase them in that role more than ever because they’ll be interacting with that community of passengers every day, every episode.”

With regards to the cliffhanger in the end, Jeff Rake said, “It’s not just about the 191 passengers…we discover it’s about the whole world. These heroes and villains now realize that everything going on is much more important than just them, so the stakes are way up.”

In an interview with TV Line, Josh Dallas hinted at how characters’ lives will be threaded out in the end. He said, “For Ben, and for the rest of the Stone family, I think there is an element of trying to understand Angelina’s darkness to understand their own goodness and understand where her motivation and anger come from. Ben tries to do that to figure out his own place in this story.”

Daryl Edwards, when asked whether he was surprised by his character’s end by Netflix life, responds, “I was completely surprised. We did a table read and our director and showrunner pointed out something that I had missed and I was more shocked. I think you all are going to be rocked by the ending.”

The official synopsis of the second half of Manifest season 4 reads:

“In the aftermath of Angelina unleashing a devastating volcanic fissure, the passengers face severe scrutiny in a world fueled by 828er hate, no longer free to solve their own Callings without constant supervision by the unscrupulous 828 Registry. A mysterious accident delivers ominous warnings on a biblical scale that will further jeopardize the livelihood of all the passengers.

As Michaela grieves the loss of her beloved husband Zeke, she must team up with her old flame Jared to find new methods to investigate Callings. Meanwhile, Ben and Saanvi attempt to collaborate with the Registry authorities, which only leads to dire results for the passengers. Miraculously, a mythological event reactivates Cal’s sapphire-laden dragon scar, offering a glimmer of hope for the 828ers to survive the rapidly approaching Death Date. But Angelina’s nefarious sapphire powers continue to wreak havoc, leading to a struggle between good and evil down to their very last day in this most terrifying, suspenseful and joyous chapter of the Manifest story.”

Will there be a Manifest season 5?

Manifest Season 4 Part 2: All you need to know before the premiere on Netflix

“You can expect us to return to lots of our open-ended Easter eggs and us answering [all the remaining questions] as many as possible; I’m hoping that you’ll find that we answered them all.”
