When a series runs for 19 seasons, which is a very long time, the themes of the show tend to shift a lot, and they’ve all been handled extremely effectively. So, a question like “What’s new for these characters and the plot?” is a crucial one to ask if you’re a fan of the series and want to know about the recent spoilers for the series.

Then you have reached the right place as we’ve compiled a list of the potential spoilers that are circulating on social media that you should look forward to for the time being while you recap the previous seasons before diving into the new season when it will be available to watch on the streaming platform.

Is Pauley Perrette returning to the show?

NCIS Season 20: Top spoilers for the upcoming season

Forensic Specialist Abby Sciuto of NCIS is portrayed by Pauley Perrette, who is one of the most memorable characters along with Mark Harmon. Perrette stated on October 4, 2017, that she would be leaving the show at the end of Season 15. CBS aired her final episode on May 8, 2018. Given that Pauley Perrette’s character was such a big part of the series for so many years, it’s surprising that the show didn’t make more references to her. We wouldn’t put too much stock in an on-camera appearance, given that Perrette has previously stated she has no plans to ever return as her character.

Here is some of what showrunner Steven D. Binder had to say about this matter to TVLine before switching to Abby after briefly discussing Mark Harmon’s character: “We are always thinking about ways to involve [Gibbs] in a way that doesn’t ‘rip off the scab’ and doesn’t ruin what I thought was the only fitting send-off for this guy … I want to start doing that with Abby’s character as well. I’d like to start feeling her [presence] a little more. I thought we were a little remiss in not [doing that sooner], but there are so many moving parts…. But she is still out there fighting the good fight and watching us, and she is a part of us and we’re a part of her.”

Will the viewers get to see more of David McCallum?

NCIS Season 20: Top spoilers for the upcoming season

David McCallum plays Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard. He was Gibbs’ longtime friend and the head medical examiner of NCIS. In season 16, he transitioned from his role as a chief medical examiner to that of historian for NCIS. Brian Dietzen recently shared a photo of the two actors together on the renowned diner set on Instagram. Take a look at the official post below:

If this is a brand-new image that looks like it came from the set of NCIS Season 20, it clearly suggests that Ducky will remain a character on the venerable show. This is crucial because he is the only original cast member who occasionally still appears. The post also reads the following caption, quote, “Happy Wednesday. Go get yourself a friend, a diner, and a tuna melt. It’s always a good day when the doctors are in!” which is a good sign that he is still in the show and is likely to make an appearance in the episodes.

Is Joe Spano back as Tobias Fornell?

NCIS Season 20: Top spoilers for the upcoming season

Will Fornell be the key that the team requires to finally bring down The Raven? Well, it looks like it, as NCIS fan favorite Tobias Fornell will be returning to the CBS drama sooner than fans think as part of the season 20 crossover with NCIS Hawai’i. CBS revealed that the character will return for the September 19, 2022 premiere titled “A Family Matter.”

The official synopsis of the episode states, “Special Agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole) is still on the run with his ex-wife Vivian (Teri Polo), so the team investigates who from his past might have a personal vendetta against him in hopes of clearing Parker’s name. Enlisting the help of NCIS: Hawai’i’s Special Agent Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and Computer Specialist Ernie Malick (Jason Antoon), who are in town meeting with Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) in preparation for a global military exercise, the group tracks down their prime suspect, The Raven, on the CBS Original Series NCIS, Monday, Sept. 19 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.”

However, the circumstances of his newest appearance are unknown. He does, of course, know several of the long-standing team members. He was also pictured with the NCIS: Hawai’i and NCIS cast members on the set.
