Not Dead Yet Plot
ABC’s official press release states, “From creators David Windsor and Casey Johnson (“This Is Us,” “The Real O’Neals”) and starring Gina Rodriguez, “Not Dead Yet” follows Nell Stevens (Rodriguez), a broke and newly single self-described disaster, working to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago. When she lands the only job she can find – writing obituaries, Nell starts getting life advice from an unlikely source. The series is adapted from the book Confessions of a 40-something F**k Up by Alexandra Potter.”
Moreover, “David and Casey are incredibly important writers to us who have done it all – from the soulful This Is Us to the wonderful Real O’Neals and the outrageous Don’t Trust the B – and now they’ve done it again with Not Dead Yet, a wildly inventive series,” said Karey Burke, President, 20th Television. “We love working with them and this deal ensures they will continue to create for this studio for many years to come.”
“We have loved being a part of the ABC/Disney family for many years and our experience making the pilot of Not Dead Yet with everyone at 20th was one of the best in our career,” said Windsor and Johnson. “The studio was incredibly supportive from day one. We could not be more excited to continue our partnership with Dana, Karey, Sharon, Carolyn and their amazing teams and look forward to creating shows on both the comedy and drama sides.”
Not Dead Yet Cast and Crew
“Not Dead Yet” stars Gina Rodriguez as Nell, Joshua Banday as Dennis, and Angela Gibbs as Cricket. Moreover, New Girl alumna Hannah Simone has been tapped as a series regular opposite Gina Rodriguez on ABC’s new comedy series Not Dead Yet, from Casey Johnson and David Windsor, McG, and 20th Television.
She will play a new character, Sam, in the project based on Alexandra Potter’s 2020 book Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up. Sam, who is a colleague of Rodriguez’s Nell, is part of the retooling of the single-camera comedy, which now is leaning more heavily into the workplace, with the female-friendship storyline from the pilot phased out. As a result, Jessica St. Clair and Mary Elizabeth Ellis, who played Nell’s girlfriends Annabel and Fiona in the pilot, did not continue on the series.
According to Deadline, Superstore alumna Lauren Ash is joining another single-camera broadcast workplace comedy as a series regular: she has been cast as a lead opposite Gina Rodriguez on ABC’s Not Dead Yet. Ash will play a new character, Lexi, the daughter of a wealthy newspaper owner and recently appointed editor. Lexi was raised in a rarefied world of boarding schools and private planes and is comedically out of touch with how normal people live. A former almost-Olympian horse jumper, Lexi exudes extreme confidence. But the truth is she’s in way over her head, and if the newspaper fails, she’ll never win her father’s approval – something she desperately wants.
Casey Johnson and David Windsor are creators and executive producers. Also executive producing is Gina Rodriguez and Wonderland Sound and Vision’s McG, Mary Viola, and Corey Marsh. The series is produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios.
