Ever since its debut in April 2020, Outer Banks has risen to be one of the most critically-acclaimed teen drama series shows so much so that it has received accolades of the best drama and best male TV star at the People’s Choice Awards. The sad part, however, is that since the show’s return in July 2021 as a second season, the fans have been unfortunately tolerating a Pogues drought. This anticipation is piqued to another level owing to the dramatic end of its predecessor.
Considering that the fans of the show had to wait for a relatively long period of time for the show to renew, they certainly did not expect that they would have to wait for an even longer period for the show to arrive. And with 2022 coming to a close in a matter of hours, it seems that the wait for Outer Banks season 3 is interminable.
As per the official reports, the production of Outer Banks season 3 ended in August 2022. Currently, the series is in the post-production process. Here are all the latest updates that you need to know about the series so far.
When can we expect Outer Banks season 3 to drop on Netflix?
Currently, Netflix has not announced any exact release date for Outer Banks season 3 yet. Since the season is in the post-production process, we expect it to arrive anytime in 2023, presumably in early 2023 like February-March. This could give a vibrant summer touch to the chilly winter period in the Northern Hemisphere.
Digital Spy reports that the series is looking forward to constituting more than three seasons in the future, somewhere around four to five. However, if that’s the case, Netflix will have to renew the show. But taking into consideration the time that the series is taking for dropping the next season, we can only presume that the show is in for a long haul.
What can we expect to happen in Outer Banks Season 3?
Concerning the plotline of season 3 of this teen drama series, Netflix Life reports:
“One thing we are hoping for in the third season is a father-son reunion. The big cliffhanger at the end of season 2 was that John B’s dad is alive after all. With John B now on the deserted island his father once ended up on, we’re waiting to see the two find each other.”
As you must have known being the show’s fan, that season 2 ended on a cliffhanger. Amidst the war between the Camerons and Pogues, Pope’s warning, ‘It’s not over’, has piqued fans’ excitement which will certainly culminate into the third season. With the news regarding John B being alive, fans have been left with a plethora of questions as to how and why Big John is back.
Concerning the father-son tangent that season 3 will supposedly take, this is what John Pate had to say about Big John in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly:
“John B’s relationship with his dad is a huge theme and having his dad back around and eventually they’re going to meet back up and John B has to reconcile his idealized version of his dead dad with the reality of his alive dad. It gives us a lot of thematic father-son stuff to work with.”
Talking about the romantic front of the show, actor Madelyn Cline hinted to ET that season 3 of the series might delve more into the marriage prospect. Cline said:
“It’d be really fun in season 3, if we get one, to see them actually start to truly get to know each other in a very real sense. They’re married, but they actually kind of don’t know a whole lot about each other. I feel like that would be really fun. They’ve obviously been through a lot together.”
In addition, Chase Stokes, in conversation with Elite Daily, teased about a “vibe shift” in season 3, saying:
“I think a lot of loose ends are going to get tied up. A lot of questions will be answered. And per usual, these kids are going to get put through the wringer.”
