“This is not how this is gonna end. We need a freaking win.”
And we will get one once Season 4 of Outer Banks arrives on Netflix! Can’t wait to return to the Pogue and watch your favorite teenagers take over the treasure hunt on a mystical island? Neither can we!
Season 4’s official renewal on 18th February 2023 amidst a fan event in Poguelandia (Huntington Beach) left the fans of the adventure classic in a frenzy. Netflix cited strong performance in its renewal notes, saying, “The hit series held the #1 spot globally in Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list for the 4 weeks following its Season 2 launch on July 30, 2021, and in the Top 10 for 6 weeks; it reached the Top 10 in 74 countries.”
The mysterious adventure continues with Outer Banks’ fourth installment confirmed by Netflix. We will have more riveting plotlines, mysterious deaths, surprising deaths, moments where we break into tears, and finally, what is the treasure of El Dorado, and why is everyone after it? Is it a priceless emblem of something out of mythic folklore? Or does it confer undestroyable powers on he who possesses it? Or is there something supernatural and ancient latched on to it? The mystery continues, and we are hoping Season 4 will answer them.
However, the burning question of the fans still remains amidst the current bleak circumstances: Will we get new updates in August?
You have come to the right place to get your questions answered. We have some new updates regarding the current status of Outer Banks Season 4, so continue reading!
Outer Banks Season 4: Release Date Prediction
Post the renewal announcement in January 2023, there have been several official speculations on when the next season of the Outer Banks will arrive.
It was also confirmed that Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke would continue in their respective roles as co-creators, showrunners, and executive producers on season 4.
In a statement released to the press during the event, they said:
“Seeing Poguelandia come to life was nothing short of spectacular. The Pogues are enjoying an adventure of a lifetime, and we now get to map out more twists and turns as the joyride continues into season four of Outer Banks. Thank you to Netflix, our cast, and the amazing fans who helped to make this happen.”
Netflix stated in their renewal that “Season 4 details and additional information will be shared at a later time.”
Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara in the show, told People during the Coachella event that production on Outer Banks season 4 was set to begin in 2023 summer in Charleston.
However, another update post this statement was released by Production Weekly, that production for the 4th Season would begin on June 12th, 2023, and was scheduled to wrap up by December 15th, 2023. Additionally, if the history of the first 3 Seasons of Outerbanks indicates anything, it is that the series will remain in post-production for approximately 15-18 months. This calculation suggests a mid-2025 release. However, we hope this is not the case given the exceeding impatience among the fans and on top of that, the current strike situation!
Outer Banks Season 4: Will We Get New Updates In August?
We do have a few updates regarding the current production status of Outer Banks in August, but you are not going to like it. The WGA and SAG AFTRA strike situation hit the nail in the coffin of an early 2025 Season 4 arrival. This was confirmed through Per 7 News WSPA, Kimmie Stewart Casting has confirmed that the filming has been suspended. The notice also read:
“Effective now we have suspended filming.
We will keep everyone updated as we receive information.
Filming will only resume once a fair deal has been reached.”
Following the renewal announcement of Outer Banks Season 4, the month of May 2023 witnessed the onslaught of the gravest writer’s protest in the form of the WGA union. Amidst the protest, several networks updated their schedules in anticipation of the dissipation of the strikes within the next month.
However, in July, the actors union SAG-AFTRA also joined in the protest for their wage rights and better protection against the hindsight of Artificial Intelligence. The last time such a large-scale strike sent Hollywood productions into an indefinite hiatus was 63 whole years ago! We are currently in the third month of this double-strike situation, and there are no hopes for any reconciliation through negotiations.
In a recent meeting held for the first time in more than three months, the Writers Guild and the AMPTP on Friday failed to reach an agreement to resume contract negotiations. Their inability to agree on terms for returning to the bargaining table comes after their much-anticipated meeting to discuss a possible resumption of talks.
“As of now, there is no agreement on these items, because the AMPTP said they needed to consult with their member studios before moving forward,” the union said in a statement last Friday.
Hence until more updates are released, we urge the fans to remain patient and rewatch the earlier Seasons of Outerbank, as they are all available to stream on Netflix right now!

Outer Banks Season 4: Plot
Season 3 left us feeling unresolved at most. The gang, while retrieving the treasure of El Dorado, had lost beloved members from the mountains of South America. After returning to their normal lives, they are again pulled into another treasure hunt. Will they go for it? What powerful secrets lie beneath this mysterious treasure trove? Will we lose more members?
Well, TUDUM, Stokes, and the cast have a few insights on what we can expect from Outer Banks Season 4. Take a look.
In relation to how things turned out in Outer Banks, Madison Bailey said,
“I like the ending because I’ve always thought that they need to find something more sustainable for their love of treasure. I think this is a job opportunity. It’s less about finding the gold and more about ‘Here’s a way you can take that and explore it’. It could turn out that he has malicious intent. But at least we’re chasing something because this is just like what we like doing.” (courtesy of Digital Spy)
Adding to this, Stokes had a lot to say to TV Line about the finale of Season 3 of Outer Banks. He said,
“When I saw the scripts, I was like, ‘Oh, thanks, Jonas [Pate], Josh [Pate], and Shannon [Burke]. You’re really kinda throwing me for a loop here, but the challenge was accepted, and I’m really proud of the work we did this year.”
Moreover, Madelyn Cline (who plays Sarah) in the show added that the season concluded in a “really, really painful place of resolve.”
With respect to future prospects of The Outer Banks (a.k.a Season 4), here is what everyone had to say.
We begin with TUDUM’s analysis which says,
“As of now, the future of the Pogues is still in an “embryonic” stage, according to Jonas Pate, although we know they’ll be reckoning with the infamous Blackbeard in Season 4 after an 18-month time jump. We have some big ideas that we’re still tinkering with,” he says. One thing that’s already been mapped out, however, is the series’ ultimate ending. That’s one key piece that all three writers are on the same page about. We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be if we would be lucky enough to get it that far,” Josh Pate says. But Burke adds that there’s “a lot of dark, blank space” before reaching that final moment.”
In a conversation with Cosmopolitan, Carlacia Grant said,
“I have some theories. I don’t want to ruin them, but I would love to see Cleo’s backstory. Like if a person came back from Cleo’s past to really explain some of her mannerisms. It’s Outer Banks. Her mom died, her dad left, but any of these people could appear somehow.”
Chase Stokes also had a lot to share with Today regarding the future prospects of the show. He said,
“I think part of the pacing of a show is like flying on a plane. Nobody really cares about how the plane takes off, it’s how it lands. And so for us to get to a point to slow it down, you needed to have some sort of resolution.”
“I think the fans will be very pleased to know that there will be a lot more slowing down and a lot more of the Pogues in the future. I think it’s important for them to reflect on a lot of the things that have happened in the past 30 episodes.”
TUDUM also conferred,
“…the next phase of #P4L has only just begun with the hunt for Blackbeard’s gold on the horizon. And the cast of Outer Banks is more than ready for it. In fact, they’re already back on Kildare Island, reportin’ for duty.”
These extensive details give us more than just a peek at what Season 4 has in store for us.
In the meantime, take a look at the official episode run-down of Outer Banks Season 3. It might give you a better insight into what is to come in the next season, joining the dots with the clues left by the cast and writers in the aforementioned interviews.
