The seventh season of Outlander is based on the seventh book in the series, An Echo in the Bone.

Now, although we don’t know when Outlander season 7 will be premiering on Starz as of yet, we do know something about its casting. If you’ve been devoutly following the Outlander series, then you’d know that the two characters that MacKenzie and Duncan reprised in the series are dead, and hence the appearance of their photos in the post is quite interesting.

By the end of season 2, MacKenzie reprising the role of Culloden, was dead, while Geillis’ character died by the end of Season 3 in Jamaica. However, if these characters are dead, then how come they return to 1776 America?

Their reappearance in the show raises quite a few questions in the viewers’ minds. Continue to read the article if you find yourself unable to solve this conundrum.

Why are Dougal MacKenzie and Geillis Duncan reappearing in Outlander season 7?

Outlander Season 7

As a viewer of the show, you must be aware of the fact that the crux of Outlander is time travel. It implies that a lot of characters from different timelines appear on the screen simultaneously to create a potent effect on the viewers. For instance, if you’ve been keeping yourself updated with the recent news on Outlander season 7, you must have seen the photo leaks of Roger and Brianna, who ended up in the 1980s. What if they end up time-traveling back?

This plot tangent occurs at the end of An Echo in the Bone, where Roger assumes that someone took Jem through the stones, which consequently results in Roger searching for Jem through time. Resultantly, he ends up running into Buck MacKenzie, and the duo then ends up coming across Geillis Duncan in 1737. Before Claire gets to meet the triumvirate, all of them are in Cranesmuir.  The subsequent plotline is then taken forward in the eighth book of the series.

However, if we are talking about Dougal MacKenzie, he ends up meeting Roger and Buck while he is collecting rent. The former invites Roger to Castle Leoch since he is all ears about how Roger survived the hanging. Not long after this happens, they come to realize that the woman hanged and burned in a croft was none other than Geillis Duncan.

Based on the above-mentioned plot details, the seventh season of Outlander seems to be pretty intense. However, this is just one tangent of the entire seventh season; just imagine how potent the entire new season of Outlander will be as it combines the seventh and eighth books in the titular series. Can’t wait to watch the latest season on Starz, right? Unfortunately, no release date updates on Outlander season 7 have been out as of yet.
