Will we ever get to go back into the world of Nurse Ratched? Here is everything we know so far about Ratched Season 2.

There is no doubt that this popular series has had such a great reception from viewers around the world, as it was ranked number one in the Nielsen ratings, which announced that the show had been viewed for a total of 972 million minutes. According to Netflix, the series was viewed by 48 million people in its first four weeks, which is quite an achievement in itself!

Due to this, we are certain the fandom wants to know whether the series is still in the works for a second season or not. So, if you have any of the same concerns, then you don’t have to worry! As to curb all your worries, we have provided all the latest developments about the highly anticipated second season of Ratched right here for you at Web News Observer.

Ratched Season 2: What is the renewal status?

If you recall, the series received a two-season series order initially when it was announced by Netflix, which makes one thing pretty clear: As of writing this, the chances of the psychological thriller series created by Evan Romansky and developed by Ryan Murphy returning for another season after being on hiatus for more than three years are still on the table!

So, there is a chance that the second season might still be in the works, and developments behind the scenes are in place to happen sometime later.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the next move by the show creators will be and when the production process of the series is bound to resume, even though there is a major ongoing 2023 Writers Guild of America strike that might be followed by SAG-AFTRA which can cause more delays in the working of the series for the much-awaited second season.

Ratched Season 2: Is it still happening?

Despite getting an early renewal, there are many factors that hint that the show might have been scrapped for good! It was announced earlier this month that Ryan Murphy, the show’s creator, had departed this way with Netflix for Disney, which may have influenced the show’s faith. However, we know that Netflix has already renewed two more Murphy projects, Monster and The Watcher, which were huge successes for the streaming platform.

So, it’s very unlikely that despite Murphy’s sudden exit, the shows will be canceled, which makes one wonder if he has a separate deal to continue managing those two projects! The same can be said for this series is a part of this deal though we would like to emphasize that it’s been years since any updates on Ratched Season 2 have been confirmed by Murphy or his team, which makes one speculate if the show has been quietly discontinued.

To add more confirmation to this rumor, even star Sarah Paulson stated that she doesn’t know if season 2 will ever happen. Paulson took a year off work recently, so we know that Ratched season 2 isn’t in production, which is a big red flag that indicates that the future of the show seems bleak and the chances of it not returning for another season aren’t far-fetched! The show’s early 18 episodes’ two-season renewal might get reversed in the coming months.

Unless there is any proper confirmation by the show creators or cast, we’ll just have to wait and see what the next move will be, as Netflix hasn’t confirmed the series cancellation publicly yet.

Ratched Season 2: What will be the potential release date?

As the production of the second season doesn’t seem to happen anytime soon in the coming months, and there has been no official sign indicating the series cancellation on the web, we are certain that the show will not return to the streaming platform this year. But if we have to speculate, then there is a slight chance that the show won’t return on Netflix until 2024 at the earliest.

This can only happen if the production begins sometime later this year, as the post-production also takes months to complete before releasing the new episodes. So, the fans will have to patiently wait and see what the creators have to say about the new season. Until then, you can stream the prior episodes to understand the overall plot of the show if you haven’t already!

Ratched Season 2: What is the plot expected to be?

The series is a suspenseful drama that tells the origin story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched.

In 1947, Mildred arrived in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning, and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.

The plot picks up right after the first season finale, “Mildred and Edmund,” in which the viewers get to see that Edmund is scheduled for execution by an electric chair. Ratched and Gwendolyn appeal to the governor for mercy, to no avail. They meet with Bucket. Ratched suggests a plan wherein she will kill Edmund herself humanely. Charlotte appears at the hospital, believing herself to be Hanover, and swears to save Edmund from execution.

She finds a gun on Hanover’s desk and becomes aggressive, killing Huck and a guard. She frees Edmund, who then takes the guard’s gun and forces Bucket to tell him Ratched’s plan. He and Charlotte escape, later taking motel owner Louise on as an accomplice. Three years later, Edmund calls, having tracked her, Bucket, and Gwendolyn to Mexico, and promises to kill her, but not before Ratched tells him she’ll find him first.

The next season is expected to be true to the plotlines and follow the story in a continuation to avoid any necessary plot holes.

Ratched Season 2: How many episodes, and where can you stream them?

The series was picked up with two season approval that will consist of 18 episodes, from which the first season included a total of eight episodes.

So, if the second season moves forward, it is expected to be supersized and consists of ten episodes in order to end the tale as the final season. On the other hand, the episode titles and synopsis of the series have not been released yet. As the network will publish those details when the episodes are due to air on the streaming service. So, we would advise fans to be patient and binge-watch the first season to recall the events.
