It has been almost three years since Ratched starring Sarah Paulson, first premiered on Netflix on September 18, 2020. Ratched is a prequel to the classic 1975 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, it also serves as the origin series for the same. The movie was based on the 1962 novel by Ken Kesey. Maximum people know “Nurse Mildred Ratched” as the inhuman villainess from the story, but Ratched on Netflix is Ryan Murphy’s different take on the iconic character.

Netflix originally ordered 18 episodes divided into two seasons at the beginning of their partnership with Murphy. The first season ended with eight episodes, so fans are eagerly waiting for the potential ten-episode Ratched season 2.

Will Ratched season 2 be renewed? In recent trends, Netflix has canceled many of its shows including GLOW, The Society, and I Am Not Okay With This. Will Ratched be next in the line to take the fall? Here’s everything we know about the potential season 2 of Ratched.

When the show first appeared on Netflix it was ordered for 18 episodes, a two-season order. So it was already renewed even before the first season aired. If the mathematics is on point season 2 of Ratched should have ten episodes since the first season only had eight.

Is Ratched season 2 still happening on Netflix?

It will be three years this September since Ratched season 1 debuted on Netflix, and since then nothing has been said concretely about the show. Netflix has not officially canceled the show but it might be possible that the show was quietly canceled.

At this juncture, even star Sarah Paulson is unsure if season 2 will ever happen. It’s starting to seem implausible. Maybe before the pandemic, we would have said that it was highly improbable for a renewed show to get canceled, but that happens with increasing numbers recently. Anything could happen.

Will Ratched season 2 be the final season?

If the show potentially gets made again, the chances of this being the final season are pretty to extremely good, since Netflix doesn’t seem that much interested in the show anymore. On the other hand, Ryan Murphy’s other Netflix series, The Watcher and the Monster, seem more valuable to the watchers than Ratched. Monster even went ahead to get a two-season renewal, lengthening it to at least a third season.
Previously when Sarah Paulson spoke about the show, she stated that the writers had an endgame in mind, so it does sound like Ratched was always supposed to be only two seasons.

Does Ratched season 2 have a release date?

No, the second season of Ratched has no release date as of now and it is highly unlikely that it will release this year.

As far as we know, Ratched season 2 has not begun its filming yet or even gone into pre-production. There has been absolutely no news or updates on the making of the new season. Unless everything is taking place covertly, we have no updates in regard to its filming or the show’s potential comeback in the future.

What could Ratched season 2 be about?

The finale of season one ends with Edmund and Charlotte passing Mildred as they try to get away from her, and it’s given that when the show comes back, it will be a cat-and-mouse chase between brother and sister. However, the second season should also put Mildred on a path to becoming the petrifying woman we know her as in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
