Renewed for the second season by Prime Video briefly after the show amassed critical acclaim, the fans are now left wondering when this new season will grace their screens. Although the series suffered a brief hiatus owing to Tom Cruise’s perception of the role, Lee Child’s Jack Reacher was nevertheless on Prime.
With Alan Ritchson playing the lead, Reacher has become bigger, has become 6 foot 2 inches big, inching closer to the character’s imposing 6 foot 5 inches. Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, explicated the streamer’s strategy to adapt the mind-blowing fantasy that belongs to the coterie of The Wheel of Time and Rings of Power. She said:
“Those are two areas that we will invest in as global tentpole content strategies. But we also want to appeal to local audiences. People will come for the big global content. But what we don’t want is a customer to come in to be able to just watch one show, and then there’s nothing else for them. So we want to make sure we are really surfacing to them a collection of content that they love.” (Per Variety)
Replete with references and sources, Jack Reacher has become a classic ranging from movies starring Cruise to an abundant series of books available on Amazon. But we have digressed. Let’s come to the point.
The point is: What will happen in Reacher season 2? More importantly, when will Reacher season 2 land on Prime Video?

When can we expect Reacher season 2 to arrive on Netflix?
At the time of writing this article, Prime Video has not released the official release date of Reacher season 2. However, it is confirmed that the second season will arrive on Prime in December 2023. This seems plausible, thanks to Ritchson’s update, who let us know that filming has already begun in the fall of 2022. On September 22, he updated his fans regarding the ongoing production process via an Instagram post.
Ritchson said in a video: “We’re back, bigger and better than ever. Ready to kick things off with a Reacher slate. This makes it official, we’re in.”
In February 2023, Prime Video’s official Twitter account announced that season two’s filming had officially wrapped. Regarding filming, Ritcher said:
“I just came off set. Reacher season two, the last scene is done. As you can see, things got a little crazy. We promised things will be back bigger and better than ever. And we did not lie.”
What can we expect to happen in Reacher season 2?
*Spoiler alert*
Season one underscored Jack’s chase for his brother’s murderer, and by the end of it, all the loose ends seemed to tie up quite neatly. In the wake of it, Reacher decides to escape Margrave to search for something new. After he bids his goodbyes, Reachers buries a medal, which holds paramount sentimental value, in his brother’s resting place.
Reacher season one was based on the first Jack Reacher book, Killing Floor. Per Digital Spy, the second season will be “jumping ahead” to book number 11, entitled Bad Luck and Trouble. In this book, Reacher’s “old investigative unit are brought back together when one of their number is killed.”
In a conversation with TVLine earlier, show boss Santora had already pointed out that the seasons wouldn’t necessarily follow a chronological order. Considering that the content is replete and divided into 26 novels, the show’s creators can jump from one novel to another anytime they want.
Talking to Radio Times about the chronology of the books, Child said, “I haven’t read the books. I’ve written them. I never reread them. I know them by reputation, what other people tell me about them. And some are really popular.
“I think what was so great about this first season was Reacher’s loneliness being assuaged by his relationships with other people, and I would like to see more of that. And there are two or three books that really stand out in that sense. So maybe one of them.”
Who are the expected cast members of Reacher season 2?
Reacher season 2 is impossible without its eponymous hero, Jack Reacher, played by Alan Ritchson. Reacting to Reacher’s swift season 2 renewal, Ritchson expressed his exhilaration via an Instagram post. It was captioned with:
“Whoaaaaaa!!! This is incredible! Unlike Reacher who chooses to say nothing, I’m simply speechless.
“In just our opening weekend you’ve made #ReacheronPrime one of @primevideo most watched shows EVER! That is insane.
“There are so many people I’m grateful to for making this show as enjoyable as it is. But all of the creative genius and unwavering commitment by all those behind this would amount to nothing if you weren’t enjoying the world of Reacher. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
In addition to him, we expect the following members to reprise their roles:
- Maria Sten as Reacher’s former Army subordinate Frances Neagley.
- Maxwell Jenkins as a younger version of Jack Reacher
Not only that, but as per recent reports, some new additions have also been made to the cast of Reacher season 2. These include:
- Serinda Swan
- Rory Cochrane
- Domenick Lombardozzi
- Ferdinand Kingsley
- Ty Victor Olsson
- Josh Blacker
- Al Sapienza
- Dean McKenzie
- Shannon Kook-Chun
- Luke Bilyk
- Andres Collantes
- Edsson Morales
Unfortunately, Willa Fitzgerald will reportedly not return to Reacher season 2, reprising the role of police officer Roscoe Conklin. While talking to Digital Spy about the UK release of the movie 18½, she revealed that she knew from the beginning that hers would be a one-time appearance.
“Yeah, I did know that from the get-go,” she said. “I think that’s a great opportunity to get to tell a clean and complete story, and then be able to walk away. I think it’s a unique experience in TV.”
“It’s nice to have the agency to know that that is a complete, finished product,” she later added. “And it was also great to be able to start off the whole Reacher world.”
Contrarily, Jenkins has expressed his optimism to stay in for the long haul. In a conversation with Pop Culturalist, he said, “Lee Child has created an incredible world with his Jack Reacher novels. Nick Santora and the writers, directors, and main cast have adapted it beautifully and authentically, and I think audiences appreciate that. There’s a reason these novels are so beloved.
“The stories are exciting. The characters are unique and fun to go on a journey with. I am proud to be even a small part of such a great series, and I hope I get to continue adding where I can to the Reacher story.”
