An immersive dystopian fiction series, Severance successfully enthralled the viewers with its very first season, so much so that fans inundated social media with their riveting theories about the show. Created by Dan Erickson and produced by Ben Stiller, Severance revolves around a hegemonic Lumon Corporation that disintegrates an employee’s memories and personalities into two, creating an “innie for the workplace, and an outie for the outside world.” (ScreenRant)
Over the years, be it in books or movies, the genre of dystopian science fiction has a creative channel to unravel the trials and tribulations of the contemporary era. Severance’s riveting and intriguing premise has led to an exponential success graph for Apple TV+ as well as established connectivity and relatability with the viewers.
However, this is just the beginning. In season one, we saw the four severed innies of the Macro-Data Refinement department, which has set the stage for the second season, which was renewed in August 2022. Although it has been quite a while since it was renewed, Severance, like other shows, was also affected by the Hollywood strikes.
Regardless, in the wake of the writers’ strike, everyone is expecting the affected shows to arrive premiere on their official network as soon as possible.
The burgeoning fan theories are a testament to the anticipation for Severance season 2. Unfortunately, the second season might not premiere on Apple TV+ this October. Here’s why.
Severance season 2: Is it coming to Apple TV+ in October?
Owing to the months-long WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, no work has been done on Severance season 2 as of yet, apart from the initial production that began in October 2022. Consequently, there is no update on the second season, neither by Apple nor by the producers. However, as mentioned previously, the WGA strike was resolved on September 27, 2023.
Unfortunately, the actors’ strike has not. The union is still in conversation with the concerned authorities, and we hope that it will be resolved by the end of 2023.
If it is not resolved by the end of 2023, the cameras won’t begin rolling, even if the scripts are ready. Once it is resolved, we can expect Severance season 2 to premiere on Apple TV+ by 2024. However, this speculative window is not confirmed by Apple TV at the moment. What Apple did confirm was the arrival of eight new cast members for Severance season 2, including Gwendoline Christie, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Merrit Wever, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, John Noble and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. At the moment, their roles are not disclosed.
