Are you missing Moordale and its bunch of high school kids too? Read on to find out the latest updates on Sex Education Season 4.
Sex education is a comedy-drama series that follows the lives of the students of Moordale Secondary School. The center theme of the series is sexual intimacy, and it talks about the personal dilemmas and choices one has to make to find out who they really are.
The show was a blockbuster hit, with over 40 million viewers streaming the first series after its debut. According to Netflix Top 10 global viewership, Sex Education was watched for over 447,750,000 hours between September 12 and October 24, 2021.
The third season of the series premiered on September 17, 2021, and a fourth season was announced on September 25, 2021. But, as of April 2022, the season is yet to be released. So, when’s the season coming? Who’s in the cast? And what will it be about?
Here’s everything we know so far about Sex Education Season 4.
Sex Education Season 4 Estimated Release Date
Unfortunately, there is no release date for Sex Education Season 4 as of now. But, one thing is clear for sure, the series won’t be returning in 2022 as there are two filming schedules that open up the show, and they won’t be able to complete it in 2022, and after the filming is done, there’s a lot of post-production activities as well. So, we’re expecting the show in early or mid-2023.
Earlier this month, Asa Butterfield, while sharing the filming update with Digital Spy said, “We haven’t started filming yet,” he said. “But we are planning to start filming soonish. And that’s about all I can say.”
So, given the fact that the series is yet to start filming, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Sex Education Season 4 in 2022.
When will Sex Education Season 4 come to Netflix?
As aforementioned, it’s unlikely that the series will release this year. However, if we look at the schedule of the previous seasons, both Season 1 and 2 were released in January, while Season 3 was released in September. It’s safe to assume that the network might be eying a January 2023 release for Sex Education Season 4, and we might be able to welcome it on Netflix with the New Year.
What will be the plot of Sex Education Season 4?
In Sex Education Season 4, we’ll see the fate of Moordale Secondary School and its students. In the previous season, we saw the announcement that Moordale High would be closing. So, this season will reveal whether the characters will move and try to find new schools and complete their education away from each other, or they will come together to save their school before it’s too late.
This was about the school, but there are many relationships that will be tested as well. Otis and Meave have confessed their feelings for each other, but Ruby is there, and Meave had to move abroad for further studies, so that’ll be exciting to watch who’ll end up with Otis. Another couple that is going through some complications is Eris and Adam. They’ve broken up after realizing that they are not emotionally compatible with each other. We’ll see if they will try to reconnect in the upcoming season or if they are better off each other. We can’t wait to find out what will be the new mysteries and suspense in Season 4.
Who is in the cast of Sex Education Season 4?
Unsurprisingly, the main characters returning for the fourth season include:
Gillian Anderson as Jean
Asa Butterfield as Otis
Ema Mackey as Maeve
Ncuti Gatwa as Eric
Conor Swindells as Adam
Aimee Lou Wood as Aimee
Kedar Williams-Sterling as Jackson
Emma Mackey, who plays Maeve, has discussed her hopes for Maeve in a Season 4, telling ELLE, “I’m excited for her to make some new friends, to open up a bit more and be exposed to a different culture, to a different kind of world. Because she’s only ever lived in her little tiny bubbles. How is she out of that bubble?”
“It’d be really nice to see her actually living out a dream for herself. What does that do to a person, and how does that change you? What kind of happiness does that give you? And all the anxieties that come with being away from home,” she said.
In addition, there’re two new trans characters who will be present in the upcoming season, Abbi and Kent. Abbi and Kent were described as a “power couple” in the casting call, with Abbi possessing a “90s Winona Ryder vibe.”
Simone Ashley, who stars as Olivia Hanan, won’t be returning for the fourth season of Sex Education after leading Bridgerton’s second season, which arrived in March 2022.
She confirmed the news on ITV’s This Morning. “I get asked that all the time,” Ashley said. “No, I mean, I’m a Bridgerton girl now,” she explained.
Will there be Season 5 of Sex Education?
As of now, the only update we have is that Sex Education Season 4 is happening. Whether or not the series will have more seasons still remains a mystery. So, for now, we can look forward to Season 4, which might release as soon as January 2023.
