With the year coming to an end, Netflix subscribers are eagerly looking forward to 2023 and the release of some of their favorite shows that are scheduled to arrive in 2023. One of the best shows that will also be hitting the Netflix library in 2023, is Shadow and Bone season 2.
This announcement was made during the Netflix TUDUM event. However, the specific date and month have not been mentioned as of yet. Be that as it may, a recent speculation took the internet by storm when some of the fans of the show discovered an Instagram post which might have revealed the release month.
For the unversed, Shadow and Bone is based upon the titular book series that is a part of the Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo. Premiered on April 23, 2021, the show has observed an exponential graph, ranking as the 8th most-watched English TV show of all time.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 Release Date
The founder of multiple magazines such as Wonderland, Huw Gwyther, recently shared on Instagram his Wonderland’s 2022/2023 winter issue. Archie Renaux, the Shadow and Bone star is featured on the cover, donning an all-black Givenchy look. January? Seriously? Which means next month?
Is Shadow and Bone Season 2 hitting the Netflix library in January 2023?
Despite Huw Gwyther mentioning the release month of Shadow and Bone Season 2, Netflix has not officially confirmed the news of the release date. The show’s fans would love to watch the show as soon as possible. But it seems unlikely of Netflix to do any promotion if it is supposed to stream in the next month. If it is really hitting the Netflix library the next month, there would be some teasers, posters and more, like You season 4 did.
According to Netflix Life:
“It would be unusual for Netflix to drop Shadow and Bone season 2 at that last minute, but hey, who knows? We’re not saying it’s impossible. It is one of their biggest originals, though, so I’d be pretty shocked if it comes in January.”
What can we expect in Shadow and Bone Season 2?
The official synopsis of the second book of the Shadow and Bone series reads:
“The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her—or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.”
Currently, Netflix hasn’t provided us with any official logline or plot structure as of now. So, we’ll side with our previous assumption:
“In the season 1 finale, we see the interminable deaths on screen, with Kirigan using Alina’s growing powers for the formation of a new tunnel of light. Consequently, another big fight ensues, dividing the world into two extremes. Ben Barnes mentioned something about his character development in season 2 with the discovery of newfound power. He said:
“He’s someone who has had an army and has been in charge of this medieval hierarchy, someone who’s revered and feared. But he’s even more alone now – with a handful of vendettas and an amassed group of people trying to kill him.
He’s sort of all-powerful now. He just has to think of something dark, and it will happen. So it’ll be interesting to see which characters we find him interacting with going forward.”
In a conversation with DigitalSpy, actress Jessie Mei Li said, “Alina goes from being a scared, little pup who can’t look at anyone in the eye, to suddenly having this sense of gravity to her. We feel that she’s grown a lot, and she’s really strong. But she’s still got a long way to go, which is a really nice place to leave her. We know where she’s going now, and where she’s got to go.”
