“Some mysteries – they’re best left unsolved.”

Well, under usual circumstances, the answer would be an affirmative yes, but when it involves the lives of what is left of humanity, we beg to differ. An Apple+ original story, this riveting fictional dystopian post-apocalyptic series has the viewers in a chokehold as the series dives deeper into secret governmental delusions and pulls the wool over the eyes of humanity.

Rotten Tomatoes reported a 88% approval rating with an average rating of 7.4/10, based on 56 critic reviews. The website’s critics’ consensus reads, “With deft writing, awe-inspiring production design, and the inestimable star power of Rebecca Ferguson, Silo is a mystery box well worth opening.” Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 75 out of 100 based on 20 critics, indicating generally favorable reviews.

After much anticipation the popular science fiction dystopian drama television series, which was created by Graham Yost and based on the Wool series of novels by author Hugh Howey was renewed for a second season, which was confirmed by Apple TV+ on June 20, 2023.

This Season renewal will thankfully answer the greatest cliffhanger of this year that we were left with in the ending moments of Silo Season 1. If you are here to learn of the recent production status of Silo Season 2 and learn about its expected release date, you have entered the right space. Continue reading to uncover the details we have gathered for Silo Season 2!

Silo Season 2: Production Status and Expected Release Date

Silo Season 2: Expected release date, characters that won't return, plot and more

Silo was created by Graham Yost and, based on the Wool series of novels by author Hugh Howey was renewed for a second season, which was confirmed by Apple TV+ on June 20, 2023, giving its fans just the heart-warming news they needed.

As we ponder upon when our dystopian sci-fi series will reach us for Season 2, it is imperative we learn of its current production status amidst the bleak WGA SAG-AFTRA strike situation that has been going on for three months now and is in no position of a negotiation to simmer down.

Production resource KFTV has recently reported that SiloSeason 2 was already filming as of June 2023, despite the ongoing strikes on various networks that have stopped production. So, if Silo Season 2 follows a similar timeline, then we can expect it to arrive by
early 2025. Moreover, in a recent interview, Rebecca Ferguson broke down the current status of Silo Season 2, quote:

“But I m in it right now. We’re shooting [season 2], so I m very excited. Further adding, “Yes, of course. I m producing it, and we had all of the script changes and everything prior to the strike so that we’re able to continue to do it, thanks to ’all of the preparations that we did. I m full in. I m soul, heart, and body in this project, and it s really good. I think season 1 was very, very good, but it’s nothing compared to what we’re doing now. We’ve done the introduction. We know the characters. Now it can go dark. Now things can happen.”

This means that scripts for Silo Season 2 are ready, and filming is underway. All is well. Right?

Well, it was until a shocking confirmation via Deadline which stated that shooting for Silo Season 2 had been put on hiatus for an indefinite period. While Apple kept mute on this, insider information has confirmed this. Sigh!

Looks like it will be a hot while before we uncover the mysterious cliffhanger we were left with in Season 1.

Based on this unfortunate sudden turn of events, it is challenging to predict a release date for Silo Season 2. However, taking the strike situation, the remaining portion of filming, production, and post-production for such a high VFX series, our prediction is an early 2025 release! It is important to know that this is not a cemented prediction and is prone to change with the changing announcements that will come our way.

Stay tuned to this space so you don’t miss out on any important updates regarding Silo Season 2.

Silo Season 2: Expected Plot

In a ruined and toxic future, thousands live in a giant silo deep underground. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die mysteriously, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) starts to uncover shocking secrets and the truth about the silo.

As mysterious as the synopsis reads, we promise you it does not cover even half the weird events and mysterious plot lines that creep up throughout the episodes.

The story follows an underground silo where the remaining 10,000 humans on this planet live to preserve themselves from the poisonous air in the outside world. The trailer opens with the saying,

” We do not know why we are here. We do not know who built the silo, but we know that the world outside is death.”

Incidentally, in order to live, the residents cannot go out of the silo, or else they will meet their deaths. To make things more convincing, there is a monitor inside, which is like a projector showing what is happening outside the world of the silo at all times so that no one is encouraged to go out. It shows a barren land which literally indicates that life outside the silo is indeed dead. Those that proved to be rebels and decided to walk ahead outside almost instantaneously died, which was also shown in the projector inside where the 10,000 people watched.

The status quo was maintained until we came across Juliette, a woman working in the Mechanical, who, in an unfortunate turn of events, wanted to get to the bottom of the truth.

Under this premise, here are some riveting plotlines Silo Season 2 will probably explore:

A Network of Silos?

Silo Season 1 3

The most befuddling last few seconds which left viewers scratching their heads, was Juliette reaching the end of the silo and crossing the ring, only for the camera to zoom out and show at least 46 other similar rings of Silos like the one they were in. It turns out there is a world beyond their Silo. This changes everything, the very root of the belief that the Silo is, in fact, protecting them from the outside world, which is supposedly “poisonous and dead.”

Earlier in the season, the hard drive (which was smashed by Bernard and again retrieved by him) showed an underground tunnel that linked the Silo to something. This something may have been linked to the other silos we saw in the end.

Behind the avalanche of silos, we could faintly see what seemed like a barren city. We will probably be introduced to this in Season 2.

But what if this was a project which had a long time coming? A few leaders decided to resort to dictatorship amidst a democratic nation by feeding convincing lies about the death of the environment, building these silos as an inter-governmental underground chain control network, and running their own kingdoms? Bernard is the king of this silo.

The ending scene changed everything for us, and we just had to wait for the second season to come and answer these questions for us. Or you can read the book Wool, on which this is based.

How did Juliette survive when no other cleaner did?

Silo Season 1 2

We think Martha had a role to play in this, and the survival of Juliette involved the permeable tape she was put on before being left outside the silo to clean the lenses that followed to the inside projector. No other cleaner has made it back into the Silo alive, so when Juliette was being sent for this job, she knew she was as good as dead.

However, Martha knew something no one else did. She provided Julia with a good batch of permeable tape to go outside. She donned an AR helmet which showed her clear lush gardens outside the silo while she cleaned. Additionally, she did not die within seconds of leaving the silo. In fact, she crossed over the threshold of the silo, and the AR of green grass altered into the dead scene we see at the ending, with several silos and a barren city in the picture.

She survived the storm because of the tape that Martha provided her with. Will she finally unwind the truth behind the silos? Or will she find other means to save her loved ones now that she has seen the world outside her silo?

There is a lot Season 2 has to uncover, so until then, we urge you to watch Season 1 on Apple + to refresh your memories while we wait for more updates on Silo Season 2.

Silo Season 2: Official Trailer

The exact episode count can differ, as the network might go ahead and agree to make the next season supersized due to the volume of the book s plot. So, at this point, anything can happen, but on the bright side, we are certain that the new season will try to keep at least 10 episodes with an average runtime of 43–62 minutes, just like the first season, which premiered one episode on a weekly
basis, in order to be consistent in their storylines and keep the fans interested. On the other hand, international viewers can also use VPNs if their region does not have access to the series.

As of now, we don’t have our hands on the trailer of Silo Season 2, but we will be sure to update you when we come across it. In the meantime, check out Silo Season 1 trailer instead:
