The start of the end! Stranger Things is nearing the end of its six-year run on Netflix, with a fifth and final season.
Creators Matt and Ross Duffer revealed that the series would conclude after one more chapter in Hawkins, Indiana, ahead of the highly anticipated season 4 debut. The Duffer Brothers had wanted to shoot Stranger Things seasons 4 and 5 back-to-back, but that didn’t happen. While Season 5 had a production schedule in place, work on the final chapter was postponed indefinitely due to the WGA strike.
Even if there had not been a writer’s strike, the new season’s production would have been suspended owing to the effects of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Keep reading to find out more about updates.
Will Stranger Things have a season 5?
Stranger Things 5 is coming, and it will be the series’ final season.
Ross Duffer earlier stated in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter: “Season four will not be the end.” We know what will happen and when it will happen. [The epidemic] has given us the opportunity to plan ahead and decide what is best for the performance. We had a better understanding of how long we needed to deliver the tale once we started filling it out.”
It appears like the Duffer brothers feel confident in their ability to provide another legendary season of the show, which is a pretty good indication, given how wonderful season 4 was.
Stranger Things Season 5: Will we get new updates in August?
The updates are subject to change depending on when the season begins filming. The Duffer brothers stated in August 2022 that they had begun scripting season 5. Other cast members have speculated that production might begin in mid-2023, implying a late-2024 release date. In an interview with Variety, the Duffer brothers stated, “Don’t hold us to it, but the gap should be quite a bit shorter this time, due to the fact that we already have an initial outline, and we can’t imagine there will be another six-month forced hiatus.”
However, that is not confirmed yet. However, it now appears that there will be an extended delay after the Duffer brothers expressed their support for the WGA and the current writers’ strike. The actors’ strike will also have a significant impact on the release date.
What to expect from the plot of Stranger Things Season 5?
We finally know what will happen in season 5 after the publication of the fourth season.
Viewers are now aware of Vecna’s past, origins, and link to Eleven. Season 5 will undoubtedly continue that plot, given that we know he’s still lurking over Hawkins, courtesy of Will’s senses. Oh, and there’s the minor problem of the Upside Down now infiltrating Hawkins.
The Duffer brothers indicated in an interview with Variety that the lingering mysteries of the Upside Down would be the major focus of season 5, including the meaning of the Upside Down being locked on the date Will was abducted back in 1983.
“We don’t actually resolve that this season but it plays that moment where they realize it’s frozen in time,” they said. “It’s a huge part of season 5 and so, we just wanted to just put it out there, and get people talking about it and thinking about it.”
Hawkins has been ripped apart by Vecna at the end of Season 4, and it now houses a massive doorway between the actual world and the Upside Down. The Upside Down looks to be spreading across Hawkins, as seen by Eleven’s last scene, in which she ventures out into the field outside Hopper’s cabin and finds the grass and flowers wilting.
Matt and Ross Duffer teased season 5 on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, revealing that there would be no of the normal character setup we’ve been accustomed to over the previous seasons: “It’s gonna be moving – I don’t know if it’s gonna be going 100 miles an hour at the start of 5 – but it’s gonna be moving pretty fast. Characters are already going to be in action, they’re already gonna have a goal and a drive.”
Due to the fact that this is the final season, the Duffers have promised that the show will take its time wrapping up character arcs: “A lot of these characters have been growing since season one, so it’s a balancing act between giving them time to complete their character arcs and also tying up loose ends and doing our final reveals.”
Who might be cast for Stranger Things Season 5?
Fans are hoping to see the following actors return to their screens:
Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven
Gaten Marazzo as Dustin
Noah Schnapp as Will
Finn Wolfhard as Mike
Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas
Joe Keery as Steve
Natalia Dyer as Nancy
Charlie Heaton as Jonathan
Winona Ryder as Joyce
Sadie Sink as Maddie
How many episodes will Stranger Things Season 5 have?
Season 5’s duration will have to be confirmed. However, given that seasons 1 and 3 had 8 episodes each, and seasons 2 and 4 had nine, season 5 will most likely be around the same length. Everything is dependent on how many stories the Duffer brothers choose to convey in the final season. Except for the series finale, the episode lengths will most likely be substantially shorter than those of season 4. The Duffer brothers have stated that the season 5 finale will run “at least two hours,” although not as lengthy as the season 4 finale.
