Moreover, according to the network, S.W.A.T. will be a part of CBS’s fall lineup for the 2022-2023 TV season. This indicates that it is likely that the upcoming season will return to TV screens sometime around September to October 2022. After more than two months of wait, the network has officially confirmed that the series will return this year by disclosing that S.W.A.T. Season 6 will be premiering new episodes on Friday, October 7, 2022.

The sixth season seems to be staying in the time slot on Friday at 8 p.m. So, it is unlikely that the timings for the upcoming season will be changed unless there are certain adjustments that the network will certainly notify the viewers.

The drama will return for a second season on CBS as the most current live plus seven ratings for S.W.A.T. indicate that the series attracted 5.5 million viewers for the episode that aired on March 27, joining the previously renewed series NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Moreover, CBS has previously renewed more shows like Bob Hearts Abishola, Ghosts, The Neighborhood, and Young Sheldon for future seasons in the comedy genre which will release this fall with S.W.A.T. Season 6.

According to Deadline, Officer Christine “Chris” Alonso has turned in her badge. Original S.W.A.T. cast member Lina Esco is exiting the CBS procedural after five seasons. Calling it “one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make,” Esco said farewell to fans in a statement on social media.

Her character Alonso, who is openly bisexual, worked her final shift in Sunday night’s season finale. The storyline began to pave the way for Esco’s departure a few weeks ago when Alonso announced to her colleagues that she would be leaving S.W.A.T. in two weeks to take over the safe house for Mama Pina.

The other prominent cast members of the series are as follows: 

Shemar Moore as Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr: a Los Angeles native who was promoted to team leader in a blatant attempt to ease the tensions between the community and the LAPD. 

Stephanie Sigman as Captain Jessica Cortez: Commanding Officer of the LAPD Metropolitan Division and Hondo’s lover, and then former lover. She is a respected officer who has plans to improve the relationship between the LAPD and the citizens of Los Angeles, despite some resistance from the rank and file. 

Alex Russell as Officer III James “Jim” Street:  A new transfer from the Long Beach Police Department. His call sign is 26-David. His mother Karen was in prison for murdering her abusive husband/Street’s father; she was arrested by former S.W.A.T Team Leader Buck Spivey.

Lina Esco as Officer III Christina “Chris” Alonso: A former canine officer and (originally) one of the two female cops assigned to S.W.A.T. Her callsign is 24-David. She serves as the Squad’s sniper and becomes close friends with Street.

Kenny Johnson as Officer III+1 Dominique Luca: A third-generation S.W.A.T officer. His callsign is 22-David. He was originally the driver and mechanic of the team’s vehicle “Black Betty” until an injury placed him in a tactical support role which was only temporarily and he was allowed to be in the field again. 

Peter Onorati as Sergeant II Jeff Mumford: The team leader of another S.W.A.T. team alongside Hondo’s. His callsign was 50-David. He has been divorced three times; in “Payback”, he gets engaged again after only a month-long courtship. 

Jay Harrington as Sergeant II David “Deacon” Kay: A ten-year veteran of the S.W.A.T. team who was passed over for promotion in favor of Hondo. His callsign is 30-David. He acts as second in command of the team and serves as a mentor to his younger teammates. He is the only member of the team to have children. 

David Lim as Officer III Victor Tan: A former officer with the LAPD Vice Squad. His callsign is 25-David. He joined S.W.A.T. three years prior to the series. Once on track for a prestigious career at the insistence of his parents, Tan instead decided to pursue his own path in life and chose to become a police officer instead. 

Patrick St. Esprit as Commander Robert Hicks: A senior officer with the LAPD Special Operations Bureau. He is a widower and a longtime friend of the Kay family. St. Esprit was promoted to a series regular for season 2.
