Based on the comic book by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth premiered on Netflix on June 4, 2021. Ever since its popularity graph has predictably observed an ascending line. It did not come off as a surprise when the DC comic series was given a swift season 2 order. Coming from Warner Brothers Television, DC Entertainment, and Team Downey, the series is temporally set in a post-apocalyptic future where a viral pandemic becomes the cause of the deaths of millions. It also results in the emergence of hybrid babies. The protagonist of the series is Gus, a young boy who is a half-human, half-deer residing in a remote location with his father.
The official synopsis of the show, according to Netflix, reads: “On a perilous adventure across a post-apocalyptic world, a lovable boy who’s half-human and half-deer searches for a new beginning with a gruff protector.”
Ever since Sweet Tooth was rumoured to be renewed for a third season before its second season’s premiere, fans of the show have been twiddling with their thumbs, hoping to stay with the characters for a longer time than expected. If you’re one of them, then I think it’s your lucky day because you’ve landed in the right place. All your rumours will be clarified and guess what? It will happen in a good way…
Has Netflix officially renewed Sweet Tooth for a third season?
As you might probably be aware, Netflix has a slew of determining factors that ascertain the renewal of any show such as production cost, viewership figures and more. Be that as it may, normally these factors are reckoned after the show has premiered and it’s been streaming for a couple of weeks. Seldom has the streaming platform renewed any show before the subsequent season or the show has streamed. But in this case, it seems that Sweet Tooth might belong to the case of exceptions. According to What’s on Netflix, “Thanks to multiple sources and people attached to the production, Netflix has seemingly given a renewal order in advance.”
Additionally, other sources suggest the involvement of multiple crew members of the show who have started working on season 3 since late summer 2022, as per their respective CVs and professional profiles. Be that as it may, Netflix hasn’t given us any official confirmation as of yet. (Fingers crossed) We speculate that official confirmation will only see the light of day when the second season has premiered, which brings us to question the obvious…
When will Sweet Tooth Season 2 arrive on Netflix?
According to Netflix’s kids and family slate announcement, the series would be returning sometime in 2023. This announcement was corroborated by Peter Friedlander while speaking to Variety. He said that season 2 would certainly debut on Netflix in 2023. However, we are in 2023 and there has been no announcement regarding the arrival of the second season. Be that as it may, we expect Sweet Tooth to return to the streaming giant sometime in the second or third quarter of 2023.
Towards the end of July 2021, Netflix officially announced the renewal of the second season of Sweet Tooth. In addition to the announcement, season 2 was also revealed to consist of eight hour-long episodes. The showrunner of Sweet Tooth, Jim Mickle, expressed his emotions about the renewal, saying:
“It’s been equally thrilling and heartwarming to experience how people around the world have been falling in love with our dear boy. We couldn’t be more excited to continue our collaboration with Netflix and keep following Gus and his friends on their extraordinary journey.” According to What’s on Netflix, “Oanh Ly will join season 2 as a co-executive producer.”
