Is The Midnight Club Season 2 renewed? Find out.
Leave it to Netflix to start a new month with a spooky vibe. If you didn’t get it, then you’re probably not doing the Netflix and Chill thing rightly. Netflix started the month of October with the spine-chilling The Midnight Club. For the unversed, The Midnight Club is based on the titular novel written by Christopher Pike.
The series follows a group of terminally ill young adolescents who are living together in a hospice for palliative care. However, throw a bundle of human beings together, and they will certainly question the concept of ghosts and the supernatural as the night advances. And so do these teens in order to cope with the surroundings. But as their innocence spirals out of control, they make a vow to contact the living once they are on the other side.
With such an interesting plotline, who wouldn’t want to have a second season?
Here’s everything we know about The Midnight Club season 2.
Is The Midnight Club officially renewed for a second season?
The Midnight Club season 1 premiered on October 7, 2022. Therefore, it’s quite soon to say whether season 2 of this thriller will be officially renewed. Normally, Netflix takes a few weeks before making any official renewal or cancellation announcement. However, the streaming giant’s decision is largely based upon a variety of factors, one of them being the viewership figures. So, if the viewership figures are hauntingly low, you might have to bid your adieus to the season forever.
Be that as it may, it seems that the goodbyes will need to be exchanged a little later since there is one thing that hints at the potentiality of a season 2 renewal. The thing is that Mike Flanagan’s other series, such as The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, are categorized under the umbrella term of The Haunting and are termed as miniseries. Similarly, his Midnight Mass and the upcoming The Fall of the House of Usher has also been called miniseries. On the other hand, fortunately, The Midnight Club is categorized as a series or a drama.
Flanagan, hinting at the development of the series, in a press interview, mentioned that the drama is “certainly designed” for expansion. He said, “We also didn’t answer some of the bigger questions this season. Those answers exist but were meant to be for the next season. If there isn’t one, I’ll put them up on Twitter.”
This clearly hints at the renewal of a second season of The Midnight Club. However, everything depends upon the viewership factors of Netflix.
When will The Midnight Club Season 2 premiere?
Assuming that there will be season 2 of The Midnight Club, we can expect the new season to premiere sometime between the fall of 2023 and the spring of 2024. This educated guess is largely based upon the time gap between the announcement of The Midnight Club in May 2020, filming that happened in March 2021, and its release in October 2022. Given that Netflix hasn’t officially announced the renewal of the second season, we are not so adamant about this assumption.
What can we expect from The Midnight Club Season 2?
The Midnight Club season 1 ended with Julia Jayne’s revelation (Samantha Sloyan) that she was never healed by any cult or magical ritual. She is considered to be one of the fortunate ones who recovered from the terminal disease. However, this is what Ilonka learned quite late. So, while she was about to drink a tonic from Julia, Dr. Stanton arrived just in time to stop her from drinking.
According to Decider, “If there is a second season, it will likely further explore Dr Stanton’s connection to this cult. Also, The Midnight Club ends with most of the patients of Rotterdam Home still alive. Another instalment would give the series the opportunity to further tell their stories in the form of spooky tales in the dark. Honestly, this should be how we all talk about our trauma.”
