Why did CBS pick up The Neighborhood for Season 5?
According to Deadline, “CBS has secured its top four comedy series — which also are the four most-watched comedy series on broadcast TV — for next season: #1 Young Sheldon, #2 Ghosts, #3 The Neighborhood, and #4 Bob ♥ Abishola.” After such a great response it is not a surprise that the series has been renewed for a fifth season. The Neighborhood fans have enjoyed the way show creators have dealt with the character and the storyline of the series.
Kelly Kahl, President of CBS Entertainment stated, “We’re thrilled to bring back television’s four most-watched comedies for next season, and I’m proud of the incredible team that maintains CBS’ position as the clear leader in comedy.”
Further adding, “Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, together with a breakout cast and exceptional writers, have done a superb job of adapting Ghosts for the U.S. and absolutely making it their own. This smart and charming show is delivering new creative highs, not to mention scaring up new audience highs, every week.”
“And on Mondays, the perfect pairing of The Neighborhood and Bob ♥ Abishola continues to deftly blend belly laughs with relatable and culturally relevant storylines, thanks to these exceptionally talented actors and outstanding creative teams,” Kahl added. The Neighborhood, currently in its fourth season, averages 6.64 million viewers along with Bob ♥ Abishola which is averaging 6.6 million in its third season. The Neighborhood Season 5 Expected Plot
The upcoming season is expected to pick up from the finale episode of the fourth season which is the 22nd episode, Welcome to the Ring, released on May 23, 2022. The episode was directed by Victor Gonzalez and written by Dan Cross & David Hoge. The episode is estimated to be viewed by 5.91 million US viewers. The official synopsis of the episode states, “As Marty prepares to propose to his girlfriend, Calvin and Tina work with party planner Chika to throw a celebration that properly honors their future daughter-in-law’s Nigerian heritage.”
In the episode, the viewers got to see that, Because Necie comes from a Nigerian family, the Butlers engage Chika (Gina Yashere) to make sure Marty’s surprise marriage proposal to Necie is in keeping with Nigerian custom. A goat is one of the many dowry goods Chicka insists the Butlers buy for Necie’s family, and before Necie arrives, the goat decimates most of the other items.
While this is going on, Dave is reminded as he watches Marty select a wedding band for Necie that Gemma is still donning the little ring he bought her when they were strapped for cash. He surprises Gemma with a much bigger ring, only to be shocked when she longs for the previous one, surprising him as well.
