Is the popular comedy sitcom returning sooner than you think? Here is everything we know so far about The Neighborhood Season 6.
If you have tuned in to know the new updates, then there is no doubt that you’ll know that CBS has been facing a major obstacle in their way for the 2023–24 broadcast season, which has already been impacted due to the rising momentum of the ongoing 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike along with the 2023 WGA strike, which unfortunately hasn’t ended on any agreement causing the majority of the production for the new shows to come to a halt, and it looks like the time to dive back into the world of The Neighborhood with the much-awaited sixth season might take a bit longer than usual!
The series created by Jim Reynolds for CBS, which has kept audiences coming back to stream the new seasons with its engaging storylines and captivating performances, sadly won’t be premiering anytime soon this year or in the usual fall broadcast season of 2023. The Neighborhood Season 6 Renewal Status: When was it approved?
The hit comedy will be back for another season after being renewed for a sixth season back in January 2023. The renewal comes amid strong reception for the fifth season, which averaged 6.13 million viewers in its Monday 8 PM time period and grew to over 7.3 million viewers with live+35 day viewing across linear and streaming platforms. Moreover, the last season ranked as the No. 3 comedy series on Paramount+ based on total minutes viewed, with full episodes streaming up 60% year over year, per Paramount+ and CBS TVE.
“The Neighborhood has become a hit by not only delivering laughs but by telling stories of cultural impact,’ said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. Further adding, “From gentrification to Black Lives Matter, to addiction and pregnancy loss, the incredible writers and this amazing cast push boundaries and endlessly entertain us. As they film their 100th episode this week, directed by Cedric the Entertainer, we are thrilled to announce that we are welcoming this outstanding series back for a sixth season.”
Also, check out the official Twitter handle of the show, which confirmed the series renewal for the sixth season in an official announcement that was shared among its followers, quoting, “We’re throwing a block party and you’re invited because #TheNeighborhood has officially been picked up for season six!” Take a look at the official announcement below:

The Neighborhood Season 6 Release Date: Will it premiere in 2023 or not?
As of writing this, we want to get straight across the point that the official release date for The Neighborhood Season 6 has not been acknowledged by the CBS network! We know that the fans were excited to see the return of a white Midwestern family onto our screens once again as they adjusted to moving into a predominantly black neighborhood in Pasadena, California! Sadly, all these great updates were short-lived, as the previously hinted schedule for The Neighborhood Season 6 has undergone some major changes!
Yes, you heard it right—the primetime schedule, which was expected to begin for the fall of the 2023–2024 television season, with September or October being the best release window, with new episodes airing every Monday at 8:00 p.m. on CBS and Paramount Plus, just like the prior seasons might be going off script this year, as it has been confirmed that the show won’t be able to premiere on the approved schedule which was earlier set of this year.
The main reason for such major changes in the fall schedule is the ongoing 2023 WGA strike along with the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon, as the negotiations are still bound to happen and may even last until October 2023. Hence, this will cause a major halt in script writing and production, which usually begins around late August if the network wants to air the new season in the fall. It’s safe to say that the show might not be available to stream anytime soon or later this year, making the fandom wait for longer than they anticipated!
If we look at the current status, one thing is clear the network might be considering skipping the entirety of the 2023–24 fall premiere by revising the release window for some time around 2024 (ideally in the first quarter of 2023, starting from January to March), just like other networks by rescheduling all the scripted series until next year by keeping the remaining schedule for this year filled with non-scripted shows, which usually includes reruns and reality shows to fill the empty slots. In conclusion, the chances of the show’s official return in 2023 seem very minimal!
It can eventually premiere sometime in early to mid-2024, which will be confirmed later. Until then, this is only a prediction that the show’s creators might consider the late completion of the scripts and come up with the best approach to avoid any obstacles in the future. As a result, we ask fans to be patient and keep an eye on social media channels for more information on the probable release date, which will ultimately be acknowledged.
For the time being, we also urge the readers to check out the new revised fall CBS’s 2023–24 schedule, which includes the following shows:

The Neighborhood Season 6: What to expect from the new season?
The series is expected to expand on its basic premise, which follows: The Neighborhood is about what happens when the friendliest guy in the Midwest moves his family to a neighborhood in Los Angeles where not everyone looks like him or appreciates his extreme neighborliness. Dave Johnson is a good-natured, professional conflict negotiator. When his wife, Gemma, gets a job as a school principal in L.A. They move from Michigan with their young son, Grover, unfazed that their new dream home is located in a community quite different from their small town.
Their opinionated next-door neighbor, Calvin Butler, is wary of the newcomers, certain that the Johnsons will disrupt the culture on the block. However, Calvin’s gracious wife, Tina, rolls out the welcome wagon; their chipper younger son, Marty, thinks the Johnsons could be good for the community, and their older son, Malcolm, finds Dave may finally be someone who understands him. Dave realizes that fitting into their new community is more complex, but if he can find a way to connect with Calvin, they have an excellent chance of making their new neighborhood their home.
The new season is also expected to continue the story from the fifth season’s finale episode, “Welcome to the Opening Night,” which is directed by Ron Moseley and written by Malik S. The episode was viewed by 5.22 million US viewers as it was released back on May 22, 2023. The official synopsis of the episode states, “Calvin pushes Marty to move up the opening of their new business to get a valuable celebrity endorsement from D.L. Hughley; Dave continues to struggle with the return of his father; Tina and Gemma prepare for the opening of their new school play.”
Moreover, the main cast members who are expected to reprise their roles are as follows: Max Greenfield as Dave Johnson, Cedric the Entertainer as Calvin Butler, Sheaun McKinney as Malcolm Butler, Marcel Spears as Marty Butler, Hank Greenspan as Grover Johnson, Tichina Arnold as Tina Butler, and Beth Behrs as Gemma Johnson. The recurring cast members include Chelsea Harris as Necie and Malik S. as Trey. The executive producers are Bill Martin, Mike Schiff, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, Cedric the Entertainer, and Eric Rhone. The series is produced by CBS Studios.
The Neighborhood Season 6 Episodes: Where to stream?
When renewed, the next season was anticipated to include at least 22 episodes with an average runtime of 22 minutes, and it is meant to be consistent with its predecessor. We would like to point out that the official episode count may vary owing to the ongoing dual strike, which might get extended until October 2023 if not concluded early, which may have prompted the makers of the show to slash the number of episodes by creating a shorter season with 15 to 18 episodes so that the season may air on the allotted schedule for next year.
We would also like to highlight that the filming of the new season is speculated to be put on hold because of the ongoing strikes, which include WGA and SAG-AFTRA, otherwise known as the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, joining the WGA, or the Writers Guild of America. Moreover, the chances of the network releasing details about the new episodes are minimal in order to avoid spoilers. So, there is no way that the network will be able to release any new promotional material along with the official titles and synopsis of the new episode.
If the readers want to receive updates on when the show premieres, the readers should enable notifications on the respective platforms. When released, The Neighborhood Season 6 will be available on the CBS app and website (after broadcast) and later on Paramount Plus. The series is also available to stream on FuboTV, depending on viewers’ locations, like many CBS series. The show might also be available to rent or buy on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu, depending on the preferred membership plans that the users can choose from.
The Neighborhood Season 6 Official Trailer: Is it available?
As stated above, the network hasn’t released any new promos for the sixth season as filming hasn’t yet commenced, leaving a lot of time for the official marketing to begin, which usually begins a month or two before the premiere. We’ll simply have to wait and see what the following several months bring in terms of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike since the filming status is likewise neither here nor there! Due to this, we are certain that no new promos will be released anytime soon.
In the meantime, check out the official clip for The Neighborhood Season 5 Episode 1, “Welcome Back to the Neighborhood,” which showcased:
When Dave converts the Johnson house to solar power, the technician from the power company accidentally removes the entire neighborhood from the grid instead of just Dave’s home. This leaves the Johnsons as the only family with power. While neighbors are initially angry, they come together to help each other through the power outage and turn it into a neighborhood party. Meanwhile, Tina is angry that Marty is joining his fiancee Necie in a healthier diet and refuses to eat his mother’s meals anymore. Also, Malcolm keeps accidentally revealing things that people tell him in confidence.
