The Wheel of Time: Finalised Cast for Season 2
The original main cast is set to return for Season 2, barring one major shake-up.
- Moiraine Damodred (played by Rosamund Pike)
- Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney)
- Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski)
- Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford)
- Egwene al Vere
- Nynaeve al’Meara (Zoë Robins)
The major shake-up is Mat Cauthon, the suspected Dragon Reborn. Although Mat was first portrayed by Barney Harris, Barney is not returning for Season 2. Dónal Finn will take Matt’s place instead, who has already been a part of stellar fantasy series like The Cursed and The Witcher, so he is a perfect fit for the role.
Ceara Coveney (Young Wallander) has joined as Elayne Trakand, a powerful channeler of the Green Ajah. Check out the Twitter confirmation.

Ayoola Smart (Smother, Killing Eve) has also joined the cast as Aviendha, a Maiden of the Spear from Aiel.
Along with her, Meera Syal (Yesterday, The Kumars) and Natasha O’Keeffe (Peaky Blinders) are also a part of the cast for Season 2. Rafe Judkins teased that O’Keeffe and Syal were playing “two of the most important characters” in the second season. We have recovered the information that O’Keeffe is playing Lanfear, who previously worked for the Dark One, and Meera Syal is playing Verin Mathwin, an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah, thirsty for knowledge.
A beloved character will be back for the show, as showrunner Rafe Judkins has confirmed. Loial was stabbed by Padan Fain in the climax of season 1, but in an interview with EW, Judkins confirmed that the character would be back!
“Loial is not dead. He is alive and well and shooting in Prague” Judkins said. “I wanted people to be a little on their toes because real deaths are coming for characters that don’t die in the books.” Eeks! He added,
“We have to because we can’t hold 2,000 series regulars through multiple seasons. It’s coming, and I want people to emotionally prepare themselves. The thought that Loial might be gone will hopefully start to get people emotionally prepared, but I couldn’t. He’s my favorite.”

The Wheel of Time Season 2: Plot
*Major Spoilers Ahead*
Following the Season 1 ending, Rand and Moiraine faced a terrible fate in an encounter with the infamous Dark One while they were out on the search for The Eye of The World. In the backdrop, the gang was butting heads with the forces of the Dark One called Fal Dara. The situation seems too bleak to escape!
Rand used his only lifeline, a totem Moirance has provided him with, to overcome the Dark Lord. The totem successfully pushes the Dark One into his prison. He did something only a caring leader would do. He asked Moiraine to inform the gang that Rand had succumbed to his injuries while fighting the Dark One. This is because he knew he would be in a frenzy and a pool of hallucinations now that he had a connection to One Power. He had to sell a lie to protect the others and made a choice to set off for the rest of the journey along.
Season 2 will deal with the following things:
- The aftermath of Rand’s decision
- To find out what Matt was up to
- Also, the arrival of the Seanchan army from across the sea.
It is also confirmed that The Wheel of Time season 2 plot will be derived from books two and three (The Great Hunt and The Dragon Reborn ) of Robert Jordan’s epic saga. Reminder to note that the series does not follow the book too closely. It uses it as an inspiration for character development.
According to Amazon’s “Fanology” Twitter account, one of the key themes of the new season is “loneliness”, and Season 2 will show us more individual storylines. For example, Josha Stradowski has revealed that his story is “the start of an identity shift”, where Rand grapples with becoming the Dragon Reborn.
Speaking to The Wrap, Stradowski said he
“Think[s] Rand now has to go his own way to do what he needs to do”, adding: “And it’s just the start of his transformation too — now knowing that he is the Dragon Reborn, now it’s actually about becoming the Dragon Reborn. And how do you do that? Who can help you with that? And it’s the start of a very heavy, dark, dramatic journey.”
Of his character’s relationship with Nynaeve, Daniel Henney told Inverse:
“I don’t how much I can reveal, but Zoe and I have amazing chemistry together. We’re really enjoying working together. I couldn’t ask for a better partner in terms of the love [story]line. We’re excited about where that’s gonna go”.
Also, the first episode of Season 2 was revealed in a Twitter post. The name of The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 1 (also numbered 201 on the script) is called ” A Taste of Solitude,” which matches the theme of loneliness as mentioned above. Check out the Twitter post for the same.

The Wheel of Time Season 3: Is It Happening?
At the prestigious event of San Diego Comic-Con, Amazon renewed The Wheel of Time for a third season! And the good news keeps piling up.
Rafe Judkins said:
“I’m so thrilled that we’ll be making a third season of The Wheel of Time. The Shadow Rising has always been my favorite book in the series, so being able to bring it to television and introduce new audiences to the stories that made me fall in love with these books in the first place is such an honor, and something I’ve been working toward since I first pitched the show years and years ago.” (via Variety).
