The TWICE members are yet to release their new single this week. However, it’s one of their earlier releases that has suddenly caught the limelight. This unexpected surge in the K-pop girl group’s streaming numbers has also sparked curiosity among fans.

Yes, we are talking about the track TT here, which was the lead single of TWICE’s third EP titled Twicecoaster: Lane 1.

TWICE’s TT was originally released in 2016 and is still considered a significant milestone in the K-pop girl group’s career. Not only did it earn multiple accolades, but it also won 13 musical shows. Later, TT also grabbed the top spot on the Gaon Digital chart for four consecutive weeks.

TWICE’s song also peaked at number two on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales charts. Eventually, TT became the only Korean song to rank in 2017’s year-end Billboard Japan Hot 100 list at no. 6. Later, Billboard included the track in its list of the best K-Pop songs of the 2010s.

The current record

It seems like TT’s popularity hasn’t faded yet. This was reflected in May this year as the song surpassed a whopping 700 million views. Of course, TWICE fans were quick to notice this sudden surge in the song’s streaming numbers on Spotify and reacted to it and social media.

However, the reason behind this sudden spike is unknown. A few others are pointing toward a viral TikTok post that made the TWICE track viral again.

This video was all about a simple commentary by a listener who said that TT had a weird sound sample in the instrumental that many others might have missed. However, it was found out later that the sound was clearly at the front of the instrumental stack, as noticed by many who came searching for it.

While many believe that it was indeed TikTok that increased TT’s views suddenly, a few others are brushing it off as a random pass.

TWICE’s new single

JYP Entertainment, the agency associated with TWICE had hinted at the group’s comeback with a new single, Superstars. Reportedly, it is going to be released this Friday on August 1, 2025.

The K-pop group is collaborating with Saweetie for the single. It comes shortly after the group made their comeback in July with their fourth South Korean album This Is For. A month ago, the TWICE members had also teased that they’re “preparing something for the next chapter” of their respective careers.
